Thanks Karen! Can’t take full credit, I had seen another van dweller do something similar and the execution method was thought up by my dad:)

Perfect! I was trying to come up with the easiest way to achieve the same thing. One quick search on KZbin and I find this! Thank you so much for the video, you've just saved me a ton of money. I'm planning to drill holes in the top sheet of wood sort of following the pattern of a flower for ventilation

Lauren I’m so happy this video could help you out and thanks for leaving such a lovely comment! Best of luck with your project and I hope the results are even better than you’ve imagined:)

Nice storage. No ventilation under mattress=future mold?
@MattWatsonComedy3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! As far as the mold is concerned that’s just what I’ve heard. Although out of the three vehicles I’ve had beds in it’s never been a problem.

Combination of that delicious home made food, the abundant amount of sweets, and being in lockdown. All my shirts are now crop tops.

Love it Matt! About to build one myself. What mattress do you have?
@MattWatsonComedy Жыл бұрын
Thanks Kris! The mattress was part of a futon, and I’ve added a memory foam layer on top for comfort. Pretty darn cozy!

How tall is the bed? Are you able to sit up without hitting your head on the roof?
@MattWatsonComedy10 ай бұрын
I’ve since sold the van cuz I wanna make a camper out of an SUV or else I’d get you an exact measurement, but no I couldn’t sit up in it.

hey where did you get your mattress what size is it i have same van but its high top and i want to build a bed. but want to know what size matress.
@MattWatsonComedy Жыл бұрын
I would consider it somewhere between a single and double. Got it for $20 off fb marketplace. Hopefully you have the same luck:)

How is that breathable? The top needs to be airated too... I learned that the hard way.
@MattWatsonComedy3 жыл бұрын
Certainly more breathable than it would be if neither pieces had holes Vic. Thanks for the tip.

@@MattWatsonComedy I believe @Vic Burns is trying to help, not poo on you. An Australian climate probably dried your mattress within minutes - Canadian climates are generally a lot more damp. I slept on 4" of memory foam over a polyester-weave camping cot. I thought the foam was impermeable, but my sweat soaked through sheets and blankets and the underside became moldy, over a period of two months. This was Ontario Autumn, before the weather turned cold. $200 mattress, $200 cot, both lost to mold. Hopefully it doesn't affect you, but I'd feel remiss if I didn't at least suggest that you keep an eye on it. I guess that you lift the mattress to access cubbies, and that's a great time to check. If the lid matterial is pressboard, it may transmit humidity and allow it to evap through the bottom, so you may never notice a problem. The problems I saw were from folks using 6mm ply, which doesn't transmit humidity like pressboard. Fingers crossed!

@@DuncanRenovates This is all very helpful Duncan. Thanks for taking the time to break it down. I will monitor the mattress and topper and hope the press board does the trick. Maybe drilling a few holes in it will help with ventilation as well? If not, I got that mattress for $20 on marketplace, I’ll fix the problem and I’m sure I can find another. Thanks!

2" X 4"'s are a bit of an over-kill for a Van build. 1" x 2"'s would suffice.
