As a former high school student at Berkeley High it's interesting to see how different it is being a Cal student. The vibe seems totally different, and it feels like you're experiencing the city in a totally different way. Btw, if you're ever up at 9 on a sunday you can see the BHS Mountain Bike team at the campanile, that's where we meet for practice.

Wow Berkeley is changed a lot since I was a student there back in 1984 to 1991. Some places in the video are unrecognizable, so many new buildings, not much left from that beautiful romantic campus. I'd definitely say have a lighter schedule for Fall as transitioning to college (new living situation, making new friends, etc.) takes time to adjust. For CS I'd study a little ahead during the summer, your first CS class's lectures are available on KZbin, just look up John Denero CS61A!

my personal take: a 13 unit fall semester may not seem worth at first but if you have enough ap units do it becuase it goes a long way in adjusting for freshman year especially if you're taking the ee16a cs61a combo with little prior experience. those courses just eat time.

12 or 13 units. do not underestimate the difficulty of the courses. study a lot. make friends with people you admire. buy at least 3 records at amoeba. stay off the internet

Hey Edward! I was recently admitted to Letters & Sciences at berkeley and am hoping to study computer science. Could you tell me more about the workload? I hear that the first two years are really, really intense and that a lot of people who go in planning to study CS don't meet the GPA requirement to declare. Could you shed some light on how hard the average student has to work to keep up?

Congratz! Workload is reasonable in amount, just don't procrastinate! I can't say how hard you need to work but the workload definitely will be much more than in most high schools. Tests aren't gonna have much freebies (not like AP classes where you just memorize formulas or simple examples) and are logic-intense! For advice, I'd just say make sure you study efficiently and never be shy to ask questions in discussions and go to office hours!

I’m currently choosing between UCB and UCI honors for CS, and uci made a really big point about giving honors students priority registration. I wanted to know if not having priority registration was really as bad as they made it out to be
