Same here bro! Didn't think I would find another me here in the comment section. It's bad enough figuring out what they have covered under warranty and what may void it. Let alone how to fix meanwhile answering consecutive questions from a desperate customer. I hope after 2 years of you dropping your comment you can do this in your sleep. I'm greatful for repair resources provided to me and a fist full of vets I can call. But thank you IR for putting these on my trusty KZbin. Definitely helped me visualize the entire unit and pull all of what I've learned together.

Bought one of these about 6 years ago as all our compressors at the smelter are IR and have been great. However mine gave up ghost and the start cap was cracked and leaking. Notice on IR site they offer quote on entire motor with run and start caps. One thing is the housing for the caps is too small but anyway the cap should not crack like it did. I am disappointed that this thing failed so soon after purchase.

I have a 2475, looks to be the same as the one in this video. I have an issue with start up. It all started after a few nights of low teen temps. It would only buzz and then flip the breaker/reset on the compressor or it would flip the breaker inside the shops electrical box. We started troubleshooting and found a bad start capacitor and we replaced both start caps with new ones. Now it will start and run but it is slow to get up to full speed and still would flip the breaker some times. A few days later it was back to not starting and we found that one of the new start caps was bad. Replaced that one and started looking deeper. We removed the cover from the motor and found the WEG start centrifugal switch that rides on the clutch was missing one of the pads/legs that runs on the clutch. We ordered a replacement and installed it and are still having the same issue. Now with new capacitors it is still doing the same slow starting and flipping the breaker sometimes even a few seconds after getting up to speed. It does seem to be worse on colder days. We have completely removed belt from the compressor and it spins over easily by hand so I dont think the compressor is the issue. Any ideas? What are the chances that the motor can be bad and if so, how can it be bad if it runs fine once it gets going? Also, could the clutch be out of adjustment and be causing issues?

I have some advice to IR...pls instal a magnetic starter..on your 5h.p. units yes it cost more ..bottom line..as a rule of thumb..magnetic starter is needed from my experience wiring these units up..the pressure switch cant handle the laod at start up.. I see these units in home stores all over. Unless it's a 7 h.p. or more.....pls..pls .IR..add these starters to your 5.h.p. unitson your home store units..u sell.

My compressor starts working and builds pressure up to 150psi but sometimes during work it will not start and won't keep tank charged. Sometimes it turns on only for a few seconds then goes quiet. Sometimes I hears something that it wants to start like air going somewhere through the pipe for about 2 second and then quiets and stays like that. Fails to keep up pressure in tank when I use it. Pressure goes low as 50psi but compressor doesn't start. Then I had to open drain valve to release remaining air pressure in the tank. Disconnect it from AC power for few minutes and it starts working again build up to 150psi again. I don't hear any air leaks. What could be wrong? How to fix it?

@@SamuraiEAC Every situation with an air compressor can lead to disaster in one way or another. An air compressor with a tank full of air is not a safe thing to play with, if its an electrical issue call an electrician or a service technician. If you do not know what you are doing you can get yourself or others killed or seriously injured. I've seen several instances over 40 years in the industry that proves If you do not know what you are doing call some one who does and get them to do it. Three of them leading to tanks coming apart due to the inexperience and lack of understanding of the person attempting to figure it out on the job.
