Ingested on not being slam, deathcore and "making monster noises" at 30 | Aggressive Tendencies

Ingested (Sean Hynes [guitar], Sam Yates [guitar], Lyn Jeffs [drums]) explain why they aren't exactly a slam band, likening themselves to Dying Fetus, who also have slam parts between technical, fast bits of death metal. They call the slow, breakdown-esque parts a tool for songwriting, rather than an "all-encompassing mantra," mixed in with more black metal parts, death metal parts and more: "extreme metal's greatest hits" of 'The Level Above Human.' They also discuss the divisive nature of deathcore, the joy they find in being reviewed on KZbin and people splitting hairs on brutal music when, in the end, "we are nearly 30-year-old men making monster noises, playing as fast as possible." Interview conducted May 15 in Toronto when the band were on tour with Signs of the Swarm and Bodysnatcher, ahead of their appearance on the "Devastation on the Nation Tour."

Ingested is the most adaptable band I've ever seen and listened to, every album was on the breaking point of a different genre. They've explored their sound and I believe they've finally found their true spot on where they want to be. I could name all the albums and say what exactly I mean by this but I dont want to write an essay about this, just listen to it yourself. You'll see that if you skip around from album to album they sound different everytime and to me that's pretty awesome because each time they did an amazing job with the tone of the album.

Aggressive Tendencies. It's a good thing. There's still a stigma surrounding deathcore. For some reason people don't want to be associated with the label. But I think they should embrace it because deathcore right now is stronger than ever.

haha dying here guessing you don't realize the song titles the lyrics the blast beats ,the guitar riffs and the far more harsh vocals from Surpassing the boundries... and earlier are not BDM elements but SLAM no BDM band sings about rape usually BDM is mostly Gore orientated SLAM Introduces many other variable elements i.e in ingested's song Condemned to Rape which is about Raping torturing and killing and abductee which is a far more common theme in SLAM for example Devourment-Festering Vomitous mass has a very close lyrical theme to Condemened to Rape as is the lyrics etc. and Devourment is the band that brought slam into popularity also Ingested went into manny directions in the last few years because SLAM wouldve been monotonous for them thus when they did a more slamming deathcore sound heck i believe they were the first to create that sound BUT their latest work is indefinetley BDM where they take inspiration from bands like Nile and i believe Dyscarnate and a few others why? because again the growth of the band is heading that way but songs like Condemened to Rape ,Skinned and fucked , Butchered and devoured are all under the slam genres the rest is debatable

eehhhhhh no. Lyrics are not genre defining. They are just not. Carnifex: Depression, Suicide, Pain of Heart. Whitechapel: Society, Gouvernment. Infant Annihilator: Rape, Torture. 3 bands under the same genre (Deathcore) and all different lyrical themes for the most part. And as long as u incorporate the instrumental and vocal elements of whatever genre u chose u can write lyrics talking about whatever u want. Take a look at Hunt The Dinosaur's cover of Nicki Minaj's Song "Only". Not knowing the lyrics one would declare it as deathcore and thats it. The lyrics are 1:1 the lyrics that are used in the original, which is some form of hip hop or rap (dont know that stuff). I hope u see where im going. Ofc most bands write lyrics about disgusting or more serious stuff cuz it fits the theme but it is not genre defining. the things that define a genre are the vocals and the general instrumentalization with a specific look at the composition (as in how many and what riffs, breakdowns or no, slams or no, speed, tune and so on)

This is what I have been telling people in comments section all the damn time...these dudes are NOT slam. I would definetly call them death metal but they have their own sound. I would say they are more like Suffocation and Dying Fetus than any deathcore or slam band. Fuck the genre filing anyway man, that shit is getting annoying.
