Love the subtle head movement and widening eyes of Donny when he hears who they're standing in front of at 2:19. Going to guess that Landa was at least a 'Jack' in their particular deck of 'face card' targets.

Tarantino is a master director not leaving anything to hazard and paying attention to everything. Before this scene none of the actors has never seen Waltz and he made sure the identity of the actor playing this role is unknown to them. His intention was to make the shot from the first time and include all the natural tension resulting from a first time encounter with such a charismatic character. Also he wanted to avoid any competition from Brad Pitt and the others towards Waltz and trying to over act the scene since he knew they can't cope with such an act ! Finally noteworthy is that Tarantino had the movie idea almost ten years in beforehand, and he waited until he met Christopher Waltz and then he said to himself, this is my guy who is going to deliver the movie
