It's funny to think that Fujiwara family own both a AE86 and a Subaru Impreza WRX STI. And a couple years later the Toyota GT86/Subaru BRZ went on production.

Too bad the FT86 (chassis designation for the GT86/BRZ/FR-S) is underpowered - though not by much. It only really needs just a little boost in horsepower and (more importantly) torque to really become something special.

VestedUTuber​​ The same thing happen when the original AE86 went into production. By that time Honda had already selling Honda CRX SiR with around 140-150hp from 1.6l engine compare to 128hp from Toyota 4a-ge engine which has identical displacement. And yet the AE86 recieve more attention because it is RWD and easy to tune and mod engine and suspension. That was late 80s even before the Initial D came to cement the AE86 reputation. The principal behine FT86 design is the same. RWD car with decent power engine (toyota standard for decent power is quite underpower for everyone else standard) which can be mod easily with chassis to match the drive train. The only thing I disappoint about the FT86 is the sound.

+Ohm Jarukom Actually, there's one issue with that - the feel of each car. Many people mention that the AE86, while not necessarily fast on paper, _feels_ lively and responsive both in acceleration and in handling. The FT86 gets the handling down, but not the acceleration feel - many reviews state that the car flat-out feels slow even when the pedal is floored.

VestedUTuber I only drove a GT86 a couple times but you have your point. Compare to my 4age powered KE70 corolla. The GT86 feels like another modern car and that is bad. The car is heavy cause by many safety structure, steering is too light (electric power steering is always too light and give no feeling of road surface at all.). Older car tend to get a little unstable(shaky) when you drive faster, but not in modern car. You can do 180kph in a modern car and it will still feels like doing 80-100kph. It's a sad thing that cars aren't how they use to be. Even the ND Mazda MX5 that I test drive a few weeks ago fall victims to electric powersteering. Though the MX5 is small and light enough to make it feel faster than it actually is.

this video made me remember a story my mother side grandpa told me, about the times when he was younger and more daring, he had been traveling to a tourist spot up in the mountains on his car (he had a 1970's Dodge Dart). the moment he started making his down back to the town at the mountain's base there was another person on a Mustang going down the mountain as well, as anyone can guess the two started a race to the town. my grandpa would try to surpass the Mustang Guy when there weren't that many curves on the road but to no avail he was eating dust, but when there were dangerous curves Mustang Guy would deaccelerate and my grandpa would use the chance to get closer to him. craziest thing about it, the road wasn't paved and there weren't any barriers to prevent you from falling into the abyss of the mountain. both my grandpa and mustang guy used their driving skills on a very even race. at the end, when they got to the town they waved each other goodbye and went on their separate ways. Now that I think about it, it's a pretty badass (albeit crazy) thing coming from my grandpa lmao

Stage 5 and Stage 6 is just simply the best. So many legendary cars and good battle. Keisuke's yellow FD with the stage 4 upgrade is just bone chilling. The 3 way battle between Z33vsFCvsR32 was just insane. I'm waiting for the planned 2023 Initial D series. Can't wait any longer.

You can easily tell which stage it is based on ryouske's hair color. In 1st stage, it was blue. In 2nd stage, it was blondish. In 3rd stage, it was green. And in 4th stage, it was purple. I haven't seen any other stages so yeah.
