Thanks very much for the advice mate, I went to a careers office yesterday for a general chat with someone...I find it better speaking to someone face to face than watching it on a dvd or reading a magazine! Yes they did mention look into the history of the RAF, aircraft, weapons etc to gain a headstart. They have given me some time to go away and think about it...learn and read about it, and see if its the right career for myself.

Short answer is yes, however it is preferred that the epithelial layer is removed chemically rather than with an incision. A longer recovery time but overall less impact to the eye. Check with the recruiting centre.

I'm pretty certain it depends on what role you are applying for. I think you would be barred from piloting, but there are definitely other roles within the service that you can pursue.

you can if it was a set length of time before you join i think its something like 3 years. I think it rules you out for aircrew branches.

This video is on the old IOT 24 weeks, there's a new one since oct 06 30 weeks long although the framework is basically similar. haracheli, pilots dont split off until after the basic officer training, once you have a commision, and they like to think you're officer first specialist second (oficial party line!)

Do you have to go through this to join the RAF and become a pilot? I'm 16 now and plan to join at 17-18. Is this just for getting an officer or for everyone if you want to join the RAF even as a pilot?

haracheli A RAF pilots are commissioned officers, so you have to go through IOT band graduate before you progress into Flying Training?

No, the RAF won't take you, but I think the RN and AAC have recently lowerd thier restrictions forLazer Eye Surgery
