1.By "clean", what do you mean? Not doing LSD, cannabis, alcohol, etc...or physically relatively free of dirt, sweat, etc...? It is possible to bathe/wash at Gatherings. "Being dirty" is not a requirement. 2. Not everyone at Rainbow is a road dog. People in intentional and unintentional communities go. At least 35 years ago, the majority were not "always on the road". 3. I always hated that expression "Weekend warrior". So what? Someone has to have a job to supply money for the "magic hat". All those bags of brown rice, pots and pans to cook it in, etc... don't grow on trees. 4. When I was going (over 35 years ago) the message was one of inclusion, or at least... that's what the p.r. purported. At its best, it was inclusive. At its worst, a lot of people are in denial. Caveat emptor. 5. There is no "initiation". You go, you take part. Volunteer. Help out at a kitchen. Chop wood. Carry water. Clean up after bliss ninnies. Dig a shitter. Ask people at the MASH/CALM tent if they need help. Gatherings are generally carried on the back of too few volunteers. 6. A lot of people are paranoid. People have LSD, cannabis, magic mushrooms, etc... and are afraid of being arrested. A few are running from the law. Some have an exaggerated sense of their own importance.

Like anything else, what started out as a positive thing decades ago was infiltrated by really bad people and the saying rings true, "it only takes one bad apple to spoil the bag" .I spent a lot of time around "hippies" and there is no shortage of self righteousness that's for sure. Some of the people at rainbow have very good intentions, but the road to hell is paved with good intentions as they say and unfortunately in our quest for "peace and love" we often create the exact opposite.

I attended gatherings since 98 and its got worse and worse. This kid is guilty of the same things he is speaking against. He just wants to be the cool guy and seen as "real" and accepted into the cool kids camp. He doesnt say that this is pathetic just that he wants to join their real kids club. I was always accepted but I never cared to be, Im not a joiner. The more I saw insecurity manifesting through egos the less I went. The elders are really bad when it comes to this. Gatherings have been a jk for years anyway and the original spirit and intention gone. The internet takes a lot of the blame. Back in the day I strongly advocated to keep it word of mouth and now we have a lot of people there for the wrong reasons. Just to party and take a weekend safari oogling at the freaks and swelling the masses of drainbows.

I got caught up with these groups of people years ago and I always thought it was a really stupid subculture. I ended up traveling on my own most of my teens and twenties and you can be the kind of person that lone Wolf's it on the road all over the country and these people will still go out of their way to try and make you feel as if you're just not hardcore enough. Mostly a bunch of losers and posers and deadbeats living up off of somebody else that they're manipulating. The worst of them I ever met was a small group that referred to themselves as wrecking Crew even though they were entirely too young to have ever met Jerry Garcia. I rarely see any of these kind of people anymore as I travel. The last time I saw one was probably about 5 years ago and before that it had been a few years since I've seen any element of it. I'd be surprised if it hadn't died off already.

@@misticsun I went to rainbow this year and the help and compassion I received was unspeakable.. pouring rain and mud fest in NH. Random amazing people helped me find a campsite at night.. A few days in my dog got injured and this amazing group helped me so much without questioning. They brought by lil girl down the mountain. Everyone came together And it was one of the Most amazing expirences of my life. ♡ ❤️ I'm so thankful to the rainbow family. 🙏 thank you too
