Nice video. Is it true that the Spur Tree Road was steeper than this in the past?

Yes it was. They did a total rerouting and realignment at the top of the hill. It starts from the 7:00 mark at the yellow barriers. Originally, the road bear right and came out at the 9:07 mark on the left. In between those two points you had some of the most treacherous and dangerous curves, the most famous known as Man Bump. Trucks used to have a hard time going in both directions and if they ran off the road they dropped several hundred feet to sure death. The NWA cut out that dangerous part of the road by going around the side of the mountain and in the process reduced the steepness as well. It also reduced the amount of accidents and fatalities dramatically on that part of Spur Tree. Unfortunately, it didn't stop the recklessness and fatalities further down the hill as demonstrated by the type of driving you see in the video. They completed the project in the early 2000s.
