My mother passed away almost two months ago, she had colon cancer that she kept secret for many years until it go so bad during her final months that it was impossible to hide. I live across the Atlantic from her, so after not seeing her for almost two years due to COVID, I of course flew to be with her and support her as much as I could. I put my life on hold for it, the exorbitant costs of the flights, the chemotherapy treatment, the tumor extraction surgeries and subsequent hospital bills, it was a no brainer that I'd pay for it all just to give her a shot. It was too late, in the end, and in her wisdom she knew it was - she just wanted to spend her final moments with her kids (my brother and I). Losing my mother (she raised us alone) at 31 has left a void that I didn't expect it would. I knew it would hurt, but I didn't know how much, or from what angles it would hurt. The death of my mother, the pandemic, the nuked bank account after it's all said and done, essentially losing my job because I was away for so long, and having moved to a totally new country months before it all happened with my long term partner, who herself is having issues finding a job in her new career, doing this all through a literal pandemic...let's just say it's all been overwhelming, dissociating, fragmenting. This album echoes the feelings I already feel, and yes it's hard to listen to, it's suffocating and hard to grasp, but it also gives me an odd sense of reprieve. Shit happens, shit of the worst kind, shit that WILL change you as a person, shit that WILL alter the course of your life. What can we do about it? We can decide to stop playing, or we can just push forward through the chaos, the confusion, we can claw our way out of purgatory and past the stasis, the limbo of the unknown future, and keep going and do our best. Rest in peace Jordan Groggs, and for Nathaniel Ritchie and Parker Corey, take care of yourselves and each other. I can feel the pain, the confusion, the sense of guilt of still being here while others aren't. I know the feeling. Let's move forward without forgetting, but by not getting stuck in it.

One of the most crushing, beautiful albums I’ve ever heard. This album doesn’t just talk about grief, it *sounds* like grief, decay, depression, apocalypse. It reminds me a little of Some Rap Songs in a way, how it completely nails a heart-wrenching sound that forces you to hear what suffering feels like. Damn. RIP Groggs ✊

zero exaggeration one of my favorite records now. The production is not just experimental for the fuck of it. It is an audio expression of lyrics. Though abstract, clear themes of death, depression, and the apocalyptic world we all live in here and now which no doubt made groggs final days on earth more difficult--they are suffocatingly clear. rest easy legend, and a huge thank you to yourself as well as corey and ritchie for making one of hip hop's most incredible artistic statements.

One of my closest friends passed away yesterday morning (May 7th). Voltrax was only 21 y/o, he died instantly in a motorcycle accident. He was one of the kindest, funniest guy I've ever met. As i'm sitting here not wanting to sleep since tomorrow is his funeral, I remembered this album so I came here to give it a listen, I know he would not have liked it but this helps. My favorite song is Top picks for you, just today I realized he had sent me some tiktoks and I realized how important that digital track we leave is for others around us. I last saw him tuesday night, I already miss him and everything I see on tiktok and social media reminds me of him. Maybe, just maybe, this comment could serve as reminder to treasure everything we hold dear, to reply to that one video ur friend sent, to check on them or just to send that one video/meme or whatever the fuck that reminds of them. I miss you so much man and I hope wherever you are right now, you keep that bright smile you always had on your face. Rest in peace, forever, my main man, my dude, Voltrax, Voltricax, Juan Pis.

Something interesting about Footwork in a Forest Fire: While it is definitely about either a fire or a riot, it can be interpreted as being about desperately trying to find cover from an oncoming nuclear bomb. Especially the “there’s panic in the sky” and “sign of the times” bars. Very fitting.

Reminded me a lot of The Cold Vein (Cannibal Ox's first--and only good--album). El-p's production from that time period is so dark and metallic, really did remind me of the vibes here. If you haven't heard that, you might like it. Early 00's, but way ahead of its time.

This album saved my life. I am 639. My ex-wife and I have a daughter together, and adopted our son together. They are now both 48 years old. When we were going through our separation, I found myself lost and miserable. I was self destructive. I got so mad one day from everything spiralling out of my control that I punched some concrete in a moment of overwhelming emotion. That caused me to break my 25th metacarpal in my right hand... my working hand... my albums hand.. the hand that I held and carried my adult children to bed with.. The hand I desperately needed to make sure I could continue to listen to albums. After learning of the severity of my self-inflicted damage, I was borderline suicidal. Keep in mind that just a few months before this, I was the happiest man with no history of depression or anxiety. I have never had fits of rage, or been one to break down and cry, but I was in a low spot that just really buried me from being able to see the light on the other side. Having nothing better to do, I searched for an album I could listen to, ONE HANDED while I recovered. I somehow stumbled upon this collective of songs and read some of the reviews. I decided that it had to be worth a shot... I must admit, I didn't listen to the album, or watch nearly as long as some of you. In fact, I may have only listened to a song or two.. With that being said, after doing so, I had a new found joy and hope for life. I was able to put behind me the pain and suffering that had been cast over me. I was able to experience other peoples joy and happiness. I was able to see the fruits of my "labor". I relaxed for 5 freaking minutes to this music long enough to realize that I was going to be okay. After coming to that realization, I turned the album off, and I went back to work. It hurt my hand like hell but I was motivated. I stopped feeling so damn sorry for myself, and I became the album listener I needed to be in that moment, not the weak song listener I was behaving as. Today, I am close friend with my kids mother. We don't fight, or argue, or say mean things to each other. We are parents, and friends. I now have 1/3 of a kid. My one third of a child is, wait for it, ALSO 4 YEARS OLD. The woman I am with was going through a very similar situation at the time of my own separation, and we just stumbled in to each others life unexpectedly. We have been in a relationship for a year now, and are very happy together. Moral of the story, you never know what life holds in store for you, and if I would have given up when all the odds were stacked against me, I wouldn't be where I am today. This silly little album helped me realize that. Thank you.

This is one of the most actually spiritual rap records ever made. So many sounds of voices and things being on a different rhythm plain entirely than any rap before. Hearing the Brian Eno sample at the end really tied it up for me. Music heads doing their thing and doing it well. Doing their own shit the best they can with whatever they have. Fucking heaven. Thank you.

It goes without saying that this entire album from start to finish is a triumph of modern music. But my fucking word, can we please talk more about Top Picks for You? That song literally broke me in half. Everything from the joyful chords that are pretty much the sound of grief personified, to that HAUNTING guitar/Synth bark that chimes in, to the general message. I have never heard a song about modern grief done so perfectly. To discuss it through the lens of someone being immortalized through the technology they used is just so genius. It’s really the best way to describe our generation’s perspective of loss and the contrast of chords meant to be used for a happy tone with the complete hopelessness the song has really fucks me up. When all is said and done, I hope this song leaves the same impact on people as it did for me.

Top Picks For You has changed my life. I used to listen to it on repeat when i was going through the most full on state of psychosis, every time i hear it I instantly disassociate and breakdown into a deep depressive and empty void . my connection to the song and my relation to it is just completely disconnected to my entire sense of reality, it's transcendent of my entire existence, as if its from another greater plane of existence that is trying to reveal itself to me and in doing so destroys my connection to reality. There was one night where the song became merged with an onslaught of full sensory hallucinations i had been experiencing, and my perspective of reality had been transformed and twisted to the point where i couldn't even recognise myself anymore. Despite the overwhelming feelings of emptiness, fear and depression that these experiences have caused me, i still sometimes wish i could suffer it all again, just for a glimpse of wherever it was that existed beyond my reality.

this album left me feeling empty. I have never Injury Reserve sound like this, although some elements of the albums production are semi-present in their other albums. This album's production sounds like it's being tortured. Each sound and each melody is twisted and morphed into something not of itself. I heard someone say this album is 'post rap' and i think that's best way to describe this album. I hesitant to even call it rap because it sounds like Injury Reserves version of rap. It's dark, abstract and disturbing. Richie sounded like maniac for basically the majority of this album. His rapping feels like manic rambling thoughts and it sounds like there is this rage festering within him. The best of I've heard Richie. The times where a lost Steppa verse makes it way onto the album is feels like a distant memory. For the majority of the record Richie is alone so the times where Steppa shows up it makes the experience just so much more intense if you understand why they even made this album in the first place. In my humble opinion, this my favorite album of the year. Everything about feels raw, unhinged an despondent. The experience of listening to this album is extrodinary. Thank you injury Reserve. This album is gonna be a key point of hip-hop and musical evolution on the level of 808s and Heartbreaks

Y'all be saying some wild shit. None of this group's videos have like any views and they have like zero impact on the music industry as far as popularity goes. To say such an asinine thing is hilarious. 808s actually reached and penetrated the mainstream. This is super experimental weirdo shit. Don't get me wrong it's alright but this isn't influencing the industry in any way

@@chiarosuburekeni9325 This. I have heard about it only from deepcut music nerd yt influencers. Aint noone gonna try to cop off this vibe for their own music. Carti has been the most influential this past year, and even Peggy has a better shot at leaving an influence than this music. This is genuinely great though dont get me wrong

top picks for you is seriously just a track you suffer through. its a great track of course but listening to it is like drifting through a brain as the synpases slowly stop firing and it just goes dark.
