Lumpy had amazing final days. He went from being a wanderer, unwanted by all, to becoming part of a pack, no longer having to worry about food and water. Hernia's can be quite painful and I honestly believe he would have passed quite some time ago if it hadn't been for you. He paid back your kindness by donating his meat to those who are less fortunate. He is free from pain, and some bellies will be pain free as they're full bellies. R.I.P Lumpy.

As in life, you have to make hard decisions and you have made the right one. You could have easily just ignored him in the first place and let it be someone else’s responsibility, but you took him in and did everything you could for him. That says a lot about your character and the love for these majestic animals. Good on you all.

I grew up with livestock. This is one of the more difficult things a rancher must do. You and your family are one of the best practicing animal husbandry outfits I've ever seen. Practical, caring, hard working. All of you. Lumpy has never really filled out. Who knows if the hernia has caused discomfort or not? They certainly do in humans. He could be stressed. I'm sad but your choice here is for the best. For Lumpy and whomever benefits from the meat. You did everything humanly possible. God Bless. 💖🙏🦬🇺🇸

In our 49 years of marriage we’ve had 15 cats and, so far, lost 12 of them. We had to make this decision with 10 of them. It’s not an easy decision to make but, when you realize that you’re keeping an animal alive because you don’t want to loose it-but it’s quality of life is not good-you have to do the right thing. God bless you for taking good care of Lumpy.

Lumpy had a great year or so with you, and that's all you can do. Any day could have been his end if he'd been bumped just right. His life mattered and wasn't wasted, that's better than most could ask for.
@melanierandolph69532 жыл бұрын
Dusty you have done a blessing. You have given Lumpy his dignity to be a bison not just an unwanted useless animal as he was to original owner. You couldn't know if he was in pain which can happen with large hernias & you knew it could not be fixed. By donating him to a food organization you have helped some folks have something to eat. The Lord does not look down on this as you know and I know. You saved his life taking him in. He is giving someone the gift of a meal. To have let him continue on with this big hernia would not have been kind. Some folks on here probably don't understand this but when you love animals you do right by them. Anytime one has to make the decision it's not hard it only hurts your heart. The day my horse looked at me with a help me look and walked away from his feed I knew it was time and had the vet come. It broke my heart I had him from birth but I loved him enough to do right by him there was none of this trying to "decide". He was 25 which to me wasn't real old I had 1 that passed at 36 and 1 at 30. Another I sent to Jesus at 22. Being a horseman I had 6 buried on the farm. You love animals you understand this. You will always remember him. God remembers us who are stewards of his creatures. Remember him fondly and someone out there is greatful for a meal. Bless you and your family as Lumpy is also someone's blessing.
