Twenty years ago I damaged my Rotatorcuff in a car crash and have continual shoulder pain. Coming into archery 2 years ago has necessitated plenty of warming up, but it's amazing that in a club of 50 or so, I'm one of the few who actually warm up - it's something so important yet so easily discounted...

So sorry for your injury. Last December I fell on my bow arm elbow and am still recovering. But months of work with physical therapists made a huge difference. when I was able to pick up a bow again, dropping down in weight and number of reps was essential. It seems obvious, but it makes every shot worth more when your practice is limited.

Probably one of the most touching archery videos I've watched in a while. Please do as you said and do absolutely everything you have to do on the physio side of the things as your Plan A. I do warm up every single time and as an archery coach I was instructed to tell other newbies to do so, but injuries come as much as for not warming up as for too much poundage and people don't consider that an issue. I'm seeing injured "veterans" all over the place that have been shooting over 20 years with overweight bows, regardless of them warming-up or not. Please keep us updated on your progress, we will all want to support you through this process via comments and such.

Good luck on the rehab. I’m coming back from a rotator cuff injury years ago. Proper warmup is mandatory; so far it’s working well for me. Press on getting additional opinions and options, including alternative medicine.

Thanks for your words of support 😊. Im coming to the end of a (very) long series of physio sessions and will need to decide whether to go under the knife or not soon.

Sorry to hear that mate, I think the warm up is one of those things we ignore until it hits us and then we regret it, hope all goes well for you and you're back in the saddle soon, always enjoyed your vids, long live the 'Stretch band' Regards jv

Thanks for the heads up started instinctual longbow close to a year ago absolutely love it. I know exactly what you mean when you talk about the challenge. My first bow was the modern compound became too easy and boring, like you said an emptiness like something was missing. I shoot at least 5 times a week, when I first started I shot like 300 arrows in one day my shoulder felt like a knife was going through it. Took a 2 month break and everything went back to normal. I limit myself now but hearing your story I will definitely implement the stretching and not shoot past a threshold of pain. That’s how I got hurt. Sorry to hear the news, I hope everything ended for the best and you made a nice recovery.

You take a long as you need Kev, good luck with the physio . Some years back l broke my shoulder just under the joint and spent awhile in a collar and cuff and a lot of physiotherapist which sometimes felt like is was doing more harm than good but soon got it back to good working form 👍👍👍

Good to see/hear from you I wish it would of been different circumstances but I am sure you will pull through. Nothing wrong with dropping down in weight as I can relate, as my age goes up my bow weight goes down :-). YOU do what YOU have to do to take care of YOU. You will be in my thoughts and prayers so take care and best wishes. Hope you to hear from you soon so thank you for letting us know.

Beautiful video, I stick primarily under my capable weight. Heavier weights seem to me to cause bad form and less fun to shoot. I’m very new to archery but prefer to be under than over.

no shooting, no bow & arrows, no archery equipment, .... BUT a true archery vid I just watched! Why? Because a real true archer was talking about some real aspects about archery, ventilating on the problems he's suffering with. And I really hope it helped you a bit talking about those things Kev! I wish you all the best with your pfysio and I truly hope it will solve your shoulder problems. Now I would like to add one more aspect I would really mis if I would have to give up archery. That's the cameradery, the friendships, the open- & like minded people you get to know and meet! And this seems more something amongst traditional archers as anny other form of archery. (imho). Well, before I start to rambling on, I think you know what I mean. Again, I wish you all the best with your physio and revalidation and really hope you'll be into shooting again soon! cheers buddy!

Hiya Mate, WOW gobsmacked, devastated for your present plight, but I believe it isn't going to be forever... I'd like to make a suggestion, go swimming every other day, do whatever style you can, don't go mad, do a couple of lengths and have a good soak, in the hot tub if they have one at the local pool. Slowly building up to doing a few more lengths at your own speed as your strength and stamina improve set the goals a bit higher. That is what I did after my "Schulter dach Erweiterung" Rotator cuff OP", and it worked for me, okay these days I wouldn't dream of going over 35lbs with a bow, long or compound, but I can still sling arrows accurately and continually for as long as I want... Regards from HB... (Bremen)...

Kev, I tore a rotator cuff tendon in my bow arm shoulder in November 2016 by slipping on a wet surface and landing on my elbow which rammed my arm upwards into my shoulder joint 😦. Much pain ensued for a few weeks till saw doctor, did the physio stuff but still very painful. Saw specialist and diagnosed with the tendon tear, along with impingement and wear to my acromio clavicular joint 😵. I thought that was me done for as far as archery was concerned 😭. However in Oct 2017 I had the op in which they repaired the rotator cuff tendon tear, shaved off the calcification of the bone that was causing the impingement and shaved off the bone ends of the a/c joint 🤕. They did it all with keyhole surgery, which means recovery is waay faster recovery than being sliced open and stitched back together 😊. I was not hopeful on the archery front though as like you said recovery is still a very long time with quite painful and extremely necessary physiotherapy but it has worked and im now drawing 40lb Slick stick 😊. I'm not sure why they say you might not be able to do archery again though as the impingement fix is as far as I know quite a common type of procedure 🤔. Having said that, I dont know if you have any other probs there which might affect succes. The biggest fear I think is possibly getting frozen shoulder from not doing the physio and not moving the shoulder because it hurts, maybe thats what they mean 🤔. However dont lose hope Kev as tons of folk have this sorted every year 👍. Oh and by the way im no spring chicken either as I am 67 now and was 65 when I damaged my shoulder and 66 when I had the op 👍. I hope the physio works for you Kev ☺👍.

I'm almost over-bowed at 55lbs on my English longbow (lemonwood, it's very tough, but not as sweet as yew). Don't shoot that as much. Have a 40lb flatbow fibreglass one I have fun with. When I first started I was on the 55lber was overbowed, really overbowed. Really pulled a muscle in my back, not badly, but it had caused the two of the muscles to not 'sit' side-by-side. Got it fixed with a lady using her elbow and running it down the said muscles. Painful but it worked a treat! Don't shoot the 55 lber that much now though.

Sad for an Archer to be hurt. that he improves and can continue in what is his passion. That you can use your Raptor as soon as possible.

Hi Mick, In a nutshell, its a bit of a rollercoaster. Good days and bad. The treatment Ive had with the physio has helped a lot and I do a combination of strength building exercises to open up the shoulder joint and warmup/cool down excercises. Also had a course of ESWT which is shockwave therapy. Never felt pain like it in my life! The goal is to get me through this season and then see if I need an operation to remove the bone spur. Thanks for asking :)

Hallo, Kevin. Es würde vieles verloren gehen, was mich erfüllt. Ist das eine weise Lebenseinstellung? Ich weiß es selber nicht. Dir eine gute und baldige Besserung. Gruß Gleb

If you submit to the surgeons knife in this case, then you are a fool. I suggest you have a break from archery and then change your handedness and recommence slowly with a light weight bow, less than 30 lb. I cured my own (slightly different but severe) injury this way and am now climbing up through the poundage. I could resume being a RH archer now as there is no pain whatsoever, but I would need to reacquire all the RH form that is now lost. I happy to be a 'lefty' so there is no reason to change back. Light weight bows are a joy to use and practice with so long as we respect their distance limitations. (About 35 yards at 28lb in my experience.) I hope this helps.

Sorry to hear about your set back. Being completely honest you shouldn't make Archer your life. Jesus Christ should be your life. Because HE is the way the truth and the life!!!! He created every beautiful Day you spent enjoying HIS creation....... TIME on Earth is so short, but where you spend eternity is for eternity. Throughout God's word it says You shall have no other gods before me. Exodus 20:3 That means if you put anything above God In priority your Making it your God. One last thing, JESUS SAID MY SHEEP HEAR MY VOICE AND I KNOW THEM AND THEY FOLLOW ME!!! John 10: 27‐ 28. The only way we know HIS voice is to read HIS words. People are either gonna die in their sins as a goat or they will die As one of HIS SHEEP being covered by the perfect unblemished Blood of the lamb of God with their sins COVERED WITH JESUS'S PERFECT RIGHTEOUSNESS .....NOT our own but CHRIST'S. I love you too much not to share this. May God-bless you.
