Honestly, I'd love to see firestorm in more media, but it is difficult to make a compelling plot for him without nerfing him all to hell... one way it could be done well is to make his transmutation into actual transmutation, needing resources rather than just spontaneously generating kryptonite... for instance, showing him being able to redefine atoms, using large quantities of an abundant resource to create a smaller number of atoms of a higher value, but he has to know exactly what atoms he's working with so as to not start nuking things. This is something he discovers early on in this hypothetical film when he works with an alloy, due to small quantities, it's a relatively small explosion, still big enough to be a genuine problem, but still... This also works in reverse, disassembling atoms into ones that have much fewer components, but doing this can tend to cause explosive decompression if he does too much, particularly if he makes it a gas, "I know! I'll just make it into helium! no risk of having an incomplete atom!" "I didn't think that through"
