Batman said it himself in the red hood, if I do that, if I go down that dark place, I’ll never come back. Same could be said about Superman here, once he killed the Joker it was over, the man who stood for hope was no more and I think that is exactly what Joker planned. He knew he wouldn’t be able to get Batman to kill him so he went for the next best thing considering Superman stood for hope so what better way to corrupt that than to make Superman take a life then turn into the very thing he stood against. Joker was the devil in the DC universe even more so than Darkseid cuz all he lived for was destruction and death and seeing the best of heroes being brought down by committing immoral acts.

I bet this game has the 3rd (but true) ending: Absolute Hope. Because when Batman can't beat Superman, Kara, or Supergirl, has no other choice but to beat him just to bring hope beyond the Injustice Universe, even though Batman tells Kara that it's up to the person that wears the "S" symbol. I mean, it's even better than Absolute Power(Superman's chapter) and Absolute Justice(Batman's chapter).
