What I don't like is that they gave Harley that awesome IJ2 design as her ORIGINAL design here, and then replace it later with something really obnoxious. Yes, the character is obnoxious, but I should still want to look at her without rolling my eyes. She is DAMN right about the Quiver name, though. It really should be that in the mainstream comics.

Green arrow dying in else world stories has become formulaic and repetitive, you can call it at this point. It’s amazing how so many different writers all kill the same character like no one else can die
@changvasejarik622 жыл бұрын
Really the only time it was interesting for me SPOILERS FOR ANOTHER NAIL! …was when he was found dead killed by Niles caulder of the doom patrol. Only to find out caulder didn’t kill him, he just gave him an upgrade by placing the brain of Oliver queen in mindless husk of Amazo. Because yeah in a world of superheroes and supervillains extreme lateral thinking like in the face of Armageddon that is actually genius.

I only know about injustice storyline where green arrow dies
@gourdguru Жыл бұрын
@@noaholson9047 green arrow fan here. he dies, commits murder or suffers debilitation as a means of forcing him out of the picture or making him a philosophical sacrifice a lot over publication history. so far i think he's only officially died in main canon once. his hand was strapped into a bomb on a plane and rather than have superman amputate his bow arm he detonated himself. his last words were "I'm not gonna let you cripple me, ya Big Blue Fr-" before the bomb cut him short. he has one arm in the dark knight returns as an homage to that, as in that story superman broke his arm off to force him into retirement, and the future version of green arrow from the Arrow tv series has a robot arm referencing TDKR sequel comic, once again as a reference/homage. Injustice comic kills him off as in the video above, superman's being cocky and in his carelessness, deflects ollie's kryptonite arrow off his knuckles right into Pa Kent's heart, then superman passes the blame from himself to ollie and just checks olie's timecard and revokes his birth certificate instantly. i seem to recall it being more brutal/intense in the comic but it's been a while. the DC Universe Online MMO specifies in it's opening that in the coming future he's one of the first heroes to fall to Luthor's attack on the League that eventually kills superman right before brainiac's invasion hits earth. luthor goes back in time to warn the league and also spread superpowers like a virus as an insurance policy. just a few examples. you choose who you kill in a story based on who they are. the justice league cartoon had an alternate reality where the league became totalitarian dictators after the flash died, the crux of the point being that the flash's lightheartedness, optimism/cockyness, and general morals made him the League's Conscience. arrow is often times used as the dying martyr for the story because he's the league's ethical fiber. he distrusts and butts heads with superman over the fact he has a shriner's club of living weapons of mass destruction with no oversight floating above earth in a militarized satellite, and arrow voices the "who watches the watchmen" attitude regularly. he objects to the threat they pose due to superman not acknowledging that risk. he often butts heads with batman because batman is a fascist that has no problems with illegal and unethical breaches of privacy and acts of espionage even among allies, and actively commits acts of criminal assault, terrorism, and torture "For the greater good". the idea of justice as a private corporate enterprise as long as it's wayne enterprises running it is just fine to batman. he distrusts batman because batman knows why that poses a threat, and does it anyway, politically in the belief that it's not just acceptible but preferrable. Arrow is not superpowered making him easier to kill without contrivance, he has a wife that knows his identity(black canary), which most other hero's don't have, depending on the story lois lane may not know superman and clark are the same guy, batman may not be working with others like robin and might still be solo etc., and as such killing him makes it easy to write the emotional effect on others around him due to his death which gives the writers more natural beats to play on the reader's emotions. killing him serves to destroy the ethical middleman between the ignorant risk of superman's worldview and the willful risk of batman's worldview, breaking the point most likely to talk reason to both sides. As a bonus, because he's not superpowered, and not as dedicated/well trained as batman, and depending on the story doesn't have batman's budget, he serves as the robin hood character, the powerless human stripped of his advantages fighting an uphill battle against forces larger than himself, who stands shoulder to shoulder with giants, using two sticks and a string as his weapon of choice. it draws on the whole "He was a mere mortal and died fighting, he was the least of us and gave his all." trope. much of the reason why captain marvel/shazam's death is usually impactful, because he's just a kid and doesn't even BELONG there, but will always put in better hustle then even the founding Leaguers when the chips are down, and that makes his sacrifice all the sadder, apply to Arrow as well. he's a spoiled playboy that got lost at sea and learned to hunt to survive. he has fairly affordable and readily available tech, with some customization, but ultimately he can't benchpress a bus or shoot lasers out of his ears, isn't all that much above the average guy on the street(2 years bowhunting and chasing prey, some tactical CQB combat training, and a bit of parkour. that's just an arkansas redneck that went through basic training in the army), and unlike batman who HAS to be batman as a sort of coping mechanism for his trauma from his parent's murders, Green Arrow does it by choice, you could argue it's because he was surviving on the island for so long he got used to the activity and the adrenaline of that life, and now back in society he feels disconnected and unmotivated without that everpresent need for action. basically he's bored. he shouldn't even BE there, but "he was holding his own in noble effort, and now he's dead. he's the guy that kept us honest, and now he's dead. what will his wife do now that he's dead?" [QUEUE AUDIENCE TO CRY]. also historically no one reads green arrow. not compared to the numbers they make on batman superman wonderwoman etc. this may have changed recently with the arrow tv show and a few other DC projects bringing him into the forground recently, but yeah, he's often used as ensemble cast for justice league to try and bait more readers, had his comic combined with green lantern in the 70's and had them road trip across america to approach sociopolitical topics of the day, in the hopes both would see better readership. so no one cares how often you kill him. if they killed of someone with higher readership like wonderwoman, the fanbase might go nuts, but if they kill Ollie, they just get like 10 angry letters from people like me, ignore it and go on with business.

It's funny how Harley Quinn in most instances is written to be independent and free of Joker influence, but I always saw her ironically as Joker's successor. She has his sick sense of humor, but is not crazy enough to act on his worst impulses. She does everything he did wrong right and actually makes people laugh.

What would have been an interesting comic story for Harley Quin is that post-Joker, she becomes a BETTER VILLAIN instead of an anti-hero. The implication being that, for all of the victimization upon her, she's ALWAYS had that darkness in her, and Joker was just the one who utilized it first, while holding her back at the same time so he never upstaged or killed him. I realize as I type that the recent Harley Quinn animated series used a similar characterization. She breaks up with Joker, tries to build a villainous crew, and after his apparent death, tries to rule Gotham, and one episode shows that she CHOSE to turn her skin white rather than Joker pushing her into the vat of chemicals.
@leafyishereisdumbnameakath42592 жыл бұрын
Yeah that makes a lot more sense honestly as she doesn't really show remorse for the people she hurts. Or her lifestyle. Maybe in the Harleen comic, but that's it. She has some compassion but not remorse.
@fictiontheorizer19912 жыл бұрын
@@leafyishereisdumbnameakath4259 I always thought (written well) she'd be a good successor to the Joker, since was essentially written as a female version of him. Given her obsession though, it's more likely that Joker dies in a unrelated incident, and she turns her psychosis onto Batman to cope, essentially becoming the new Joker.
@fictiontheorizer19912 жыл бұрын
Nah. If anything thing the Harely Quinn show tries too hard to get us to emphasize with her. Even though she's still a serial killer, with not even a tenth of the Joker's wit and charm. I ducked out of that mess before it reached the second season.

Awful, awful adaptation. Black Canary, Arrow's girlfriend is noticeably absent here, and in the movie Arrow's death is pointless. In the comics he bravely made a last stand against Superman on his own (no Huntress or Catwoman) to give the Resistance the means to fight Superman (the super pills). Here, he is just killed after for some reason Superman was able to deflect a KRYPTONITE arrow.
