I'm a sucker for teal/turquiose ink! Love all of these, but... the sheen on that Robert Oster and Enchanted Ocean has my heart.

Funny enough until I got into fountain pens and ink I was not really aware of such colour group and now these colours are my favorite! Your're selection is so different from what I have but really beautiful. I think I like Steel Blue and Robert Oster most here. My favorite is Diamine Eau de Nil, Diamine Marine (maybe it's more green?) and Diamine Music Schubert. Also love Waterman Inspired Blue. Recently I discovered Sheaffer Coastal Blue and Lamy Amazonite which are similar but not exactly. So much choice but I love it.

I feel that syo-ro is a terminally underrated ink. NO ONE used to mention it, so I picked up a 15ml ku-jaku years ago. But once I tried a sample of syo-ro in my Pilot 743 I had to get the 50ml bottle. To me teal is the darker, greener leaning shades and turquoise is the clearer, bluer shades. I'm working through a sample of Aurora Borealis now because I couldn't bring myself to put any other ink into the Sailor Northern Lights pen. The names can get me as much as the colors, ugh. But also all the reddit-chosen Diamine shades are winners for me! Oh and You NEEED Emerald of Chivor, it is definitely brighter and more green-leaning than Enchanted Ocean. And the Herbin shimmers are the best behaved I've used.

I have heard so many great things about Emerald of Chivor - definitely on my list to try!

I'm trying to find a nice peacock color that's not too dark. I own Ku Jaku and Aurora Borealis (love both Pilot Iroshizuku and Diamine inks!). In your opinion, how do Ku Jaku and Aurora Borealis differ? Is Syo Ro slightly bluer than Ku Jaku?

This is such a timely video for me. I was looking to add some fall colour ink samples to my collection and couldn't decide on a teal/turquoise - and then I remembered this video. I now have two shades picked out and plan on picking them up this week. Thanks Karyna!

I’m pretty strict about what I call a teal vs a turquoise. These, for instance, I would call teals. Turquoise, for my categorisation, is more like Iroshizuku Kon Peki or Noodler’s Turquoise of the Mesas.

Thanks Amy! I always get confused with teals and turquoise so it is good to learn more about these colour ways!

i have sooooo many teal/turquoise ink samples :P i bought the 8-pack of teal and the 8-pack of the turquoise sample sets from Goulet :P plus i received a bottle of DC supershow teal as a freebie when I had ordered a Diplomat pen a while ago. def my fave colors. some colors are more easy to distinguish between teal and turquoise, but i don't stress over it and just enjoy my favorite color families :D

I have a pen with abalone shell on the barrel and I think Diamine Havasu Turquoise goes well with it. Have you noticed that European companies often call this color "petrol"? I have a Pelican Classic Series M205 that they call "petrol marbled". To me it looks like the Robert Oster Tranquility ink that I used to fill it. ✒️🙂

It is so funny now that you mention “petrol” and how it does look like Tranquility. And thanks for the suggestion on Havasu Turquoise!

This is my favorite color family and you have some good ones here. I do distinguish between teal and turquoise in my swatch books, although it is such a fine line. I see turquoise as a shade of blue and teal as more of a blue-green. I may post my favorite teals later. I also wanted to mention again that you have the Japanese pronunciations wrong and might want to at least acknowledge that in your videos. My Japanese friend tells me that Ku-jaku is coo-jock-oo. Syo-ro is actually show-row. Someone else may do a better job of capturing those than me. Thanks!

Thank you Marilyn! I definitely acknowledge that I will never be able to pronounce the Japanese names properly and I apologize if I do offend anyone.

@@KarynaLovesToPlan You're often spot-on, on most Japanese pronunciations. The Romanized spelling of "Syo-ro" is a bit deceiving to English speakers. I don't understand why Pilot didn't Romanize it as "sho-yo"...🤷🏻♀. Maybe they thought it would've been confused with sho-yu (soy sauce) 😂. Marilyn Gardner's phonetic breakdown is 😊👍🏻 Those ryo, kyo, tsu, (blended) sounds can seem challenging, but they're really not difficult. Just know that they're monosyllabic sounds. Tokyo is often mispronounced as, "toe-kee-yo", but the "kyo" is actually one syllable - "toe-kyo". I think you're doing great! 👏🏻 You're pronunciation is actually better than most ink reviewers on KZbin. You're not alone. I am at a loss when it comes to pronouncing French or German names authentically. But I'm open to learning and trying.

These would all be teals in my personal categorisation. Turquoise for me is more blue, almost cyan. If you think about inks that openly use the name turquoise they are all a very bright skyish blue just tipping into green. Shallow clear water vs deep ocean blue. (But ocean is one of the hardest colours to categorise and has even in times in history been described like purple or wine so who knows, you do you)

Do you have any suggestions for a "peacock" color (for a fine nib) that's slightly lighter than Ku Jaku (any brand that's not dry)? Also, could you recommend an ink that might match the color of Kaweco's Frosted Blueberry Sport pen, which ink(s) would you recommend (any brand)? The Frosted Blueberry looks slightly turquoise (not just blue) to my eyes.
@KarynaLovesToPlan Жыл бұрын
I haven't explored enough teals/turquoise inks to really make any great recommendations. I'm also not familiar with the Frosted Blueberry sport. Other than these ones, I have not tried too many other teals.

Aurora Borealis is the first (and only one) I’ve tried here. I think I want to add one of the three Pilot Iroshizuku colors…I also interchange teal and turquoise. I have a sample of Emerald of Chivor and never realized it was teal. For some reason I always thought it was more green based. 😅 Can’t wait for the next comparison video. It just makes me add more to my wish list, lol. What pen do you usually use for shimmers? I’ve only tried it in my Kaweco with a B nib (I’m more of a Fine pen gal). I’m afraid it will clog one of my pens, so I tend to stay away from them…but they’re so beautiful!

I have used my TWSBI Diamond 580 with a F nib for shimmers because I do love how it looks in the barrel. I do want to try them in the TWSBI Eco in the stub nib!
