Hi, thanks for the very informative video. I’m thinking of getting one of these but I have one question… I use a Fluval heater/ thermostat combo in my tank. Which is set via the little knob ontop of the unit. If I install the Inkbird, does it override the thermostat on the combo and assume full control or do I need to be using a specific heater to enable the controller to function correctly? Thanks

I know this is an old video but I'll comment anyway, I have been researching these ink bird control units and there's two things that I just can't grasp. #1 what if the temperature probe comes out of the tank, then the ink bird will kick on because the temperature probe will be sensing room temperature making the heater run constantly, thus cooking the fish which is what the ink bird is supposed to prevent. #2 what happens during a water change? Wouldn't the ink bird kick the heater on when the water level drops in the aquarium? the only thing I can think of is you would have to have the probe low enough in the tank so that it's not out of the water.

@sunnygoold94495 жыл бұрын
Thanks for this mate - I've been thinking getting a controller this week and didn't think of this brand. It's for my nano / QT tank - 2 probes seems like overkill. I wonder what is the breaking point for them? Like how often should you replace them? Like they are controlling the temperature and the heater is set at a higher temp as a fail safe. So they probably will fail after a while correct? So I guess you run it till it fails and then do you just replace the probe or the whole controller? The getting alerts on the phone is why I would buy it. But I'd prefer not to have audible alarms and just have it alert me on my phone. If I should replace it every 12 months I will probably go with the cheaper version - too many choices - should just pull the trigger ;)
@ReefDudes5 жыл бұрын
Sunny Goold you prob don’t need the dual probes but it’s a nice added level of redundancy. I tend to overkill things and love redundancy so win win! Less chance of ever having a tank crash due to equipment failure. :)

Just be careful with anything that turns on and off many times throughout they day. I used an ink bird for about 6 months with no issue, then later on it started losing calibration daily and needed to be constantly adjusted so I gave up on it. For me, I like to use a basic mercury thermometer along with a finnex titanium heater. The finnex ones in my experience stay very stable, but are pretty much always at least a few degrees off what they should be, mine for example is set to 82, but really runs constantly at 78.
@ReefDudes4 жыл бұрын
Its all about multiple levels. I set the built in thermostat on the heaters turned up a little higher than the inkbird. so if it ever fails the stock heater sensor will essentially be new and never used and kick in. (i also have inkbrid pluged into ekoral controller for yet another back up if that ever failed) all about the backups for your backups!

That is spot on. I have not had a heater yet that would heat the water according to the setting. Always 2 to 4 degree difference. I just ordered the ITC-306A. Hopefully this will be more accurate. What temperature setting do you set your tank heaters to if the ink bird is controlling the heaters? Doesn't make sense to have your heaters at 78 and the ink bird at 78.

I just bought one of these but I’m not clear on what the T1 and T2 on the bottom of the main app orange screen mean? Are they the 2 temp probes or something else?? Also, do you keep your 2 heaters on a high level so they always turn on with the controller or do you adjust them to a certain degree and rely on their temp gauges??

How do you shut the alarm off through the app?
@ReefDudes4 жыл бұрын
Possibly by turning the power off
@Stacker_Actual4 жыл бұрын
ReefDudes you can shut the power off through the app? I’m saying if I’m away from home and the alarm starts going off is there anyway to “shut off” the alarm? Or do you just changed the high & low values?
@ReefDudes4 жыл бұрын
@@Stacker_Actual You can shut off the heaters.. i dont know if it shuts of the alarm.. will have to try it to find out. Mine is also plugged into a controller so i could just turn off power to the inkbird if need be

Careful with those controllers as they go bad more often than the heaters themselves. Just my two cents
@ReefDudes5 жыл бұрын
What have you had happen? Only thing i have seen is the metal probes going bad in saltwater over time.
@dgarcia5565 жыл бұрын
ReefDudes the temperature controller begins to malfunction (sensor) goes out, then heater will turn off/on depending on this new “set point” which can cause your water temps to fluctuate to dangerous levels.
@ReefDudes5 жыл бұрын
David G have you seen that with the plastic sensors or Jsut the metal ones? The dual plastic ones should be pretty safe as it also alerts you if there is more then a 3c variance of the two
@dgarcia5565 жыл бұрын
ReefDudes ya I’ve only experienced that with the metal probe. Just be cautious.

@@austinbassin4420 100% agree! if no other automation a heater controller should be considered an essential basic! When you get it set the dial on your heaters to a degree or two higher (so they never kick on.. unless your controller died) then they built in ones would kick in as your back :) I also like to use 2x half size heaters rather than one fuill size :) multiple levels of backup!
