This ink grows on you. At first, I felt it was a bit too brown, but when the ink flow is just right and the shading appears (even though I use a F nib), it's just perfect.

Hey Stephen, I love the videos and was wondering if you could review Diamine's Steel Blue?

This is a magnificent ink and one of my Top 5 Favorites. Enjoy your ink tests.

Thanks for the review :) I'm actually getting a couple Diamine inks for Christmas- Diamine Umber and Diamine Imperial Purple. I was wondering if perhaps you could do a review of what has been generally considered a "bad" ink. Perhaps from a sample vial, so you don't have to buy the entire bottle. It just seems that all the inks you do are gorgeous, so I'm at a loss as to what a bad ink even is.

Gorgeous ink! Just an aside, the copper (aka: policeman) refers to the buttons on the early police uniforms were made of copper, therefore the moniker. Copper (the metal) does oxidize to a beautiful blue/green, pale turquoise. Thanks for the video!

+Michele Harvey Another view is that COP for police comes from Constable On Patrol. peterjpuleo.blogspot.com

Wrong! It's actually the badges that were made of copper with a nickel plating over them for rigidity.

Some argue that it actually comes from the word *to cop* which means to grab something, to get something. So the policeman gets or cops the thieves, so he s a copper. Edit: Yes, I am very fun at parties.

One of my favorite inks. Definitely in my top ten. xfountainpens.com in the U.S. sells a Chesterfield ink called "Antique Copper" in plastic bottles for a very good price. These are said to be rebranded Diamine. I've both inks and they are quite similar, but the nod goes to the Diamine as it's slightly superior in color, shading and feathering in my estimation. Thanks for a great review of a great ink, Stephen.

The "Ancient Copper on the take..." ultra short story was quite hilarious... :-DDD But seriously, this was a great review. So much so that I shall be ordering myself a bottle of this gorgeous ink right way, here in the UK! Thanks very much, as always, for both an entertaining and informative review, Stephen!

Was that the Monteverde Arista Crystal you were using for the medium nib samples? I tend to hold it up higher closer to the threads as well, that section is just too tapered and slippery.

Stephen, another reviewer said that the ink collected around the nib and had a crusty look to it. He was hesitant to recommend - have you had any experience like this since the review?

I second this. I would like to see some "bad" ink as well or at least some lower grade performance.

Hmm yes BSB is considered controversial, but again used correctly as you stated in your video it's fine. It stains, okay.. but with cheap pens and careful handling, it produces a truly brilliant blue color. What spurred this was one of my friends buying a ballpoint (yetch), writing with it, and throwing it away because the color was so ugly that she couldn't look at it. Was wondering if there was the FP equivalent, even in high end inks :) Then again, maybe personal preference determines that.

@sbrebrown Video of Eric and Den! Video of Eric and Den! Or at least a cameo appearance.

Lol at sbrebrown and fpgeeks ganging up on the troll. I was just going to comment that the way you wrote the A in Ancient looks like the Japanese symbol meaning fat or broad, which some research shows is indeed used to indicate nib sizes. You Dutch always have had quite the talent for languages.
