12:30 Any ideas on how can you clean that residue? I put this ink on a Lamy Al-star and the feed is blue even after I flushed the pen.

Very late to the show but you helped me find a new blue, and reminded me of some forgotten Chopin!

Why don't you compare it with Noodlers Baystate Blue?
@Juiceboxdan726 жыл бұрын
Less purple than Baystate...really nothing compares to Baystate Blue

I think this video really shows what this ink looks like, well done.

maybe it wasn't available at the time you did this test but Iroshizuku "Kon-peki" is only slightly lighter than the noodlers blue.

Stephen need your advice, what ink would recommend for pens that are hardcore gushers without tampering with the nib, any dry acting ink regardless of colour and brand would be most helpful. Ive been using Pelikan 4001 Blue Black and im sooooo bored with it, bland and uninteresting to say the least.:(:(

anyone had issues with LE clogging the feed? on my cheaper pens (ahab, lamy allstar) after just a few days it becomes "goopy" and I have to clean chunks out of the pens

How do you find cleaning this ink out from your pen, especially demonstrators. Base on your recommendation to get a TWSBI Mini previously, i got a TWSBI 580 along with Liberty's Elysium, Australian Roses, Apache Sunset and X-Feather. I tried the inks with a Tachikawa G dip pen and there was traces of LE on the nib which only cleaned off after multiple rinsing and wiping. Made the whole nib a beautiful blue colour which makes me worried to put it into my 580. Definately not putting this into M800

I haven't been able to figure it out yet - what is the purpose of the Tardif Test and the Brown Benchmark? Are they to test wetness and/or shading?

What's the clear plastic thing for? At first I assumed it was to allow your writing hand to move easier along the paper, but you hold it in place with your other hand so it doesnt move?

Ever get an answer to this? I'm curious as well.

Interesting rule of thumb Stephen. If I follow your advice, and I always try to, that rules out about 80% of my pens as candidates for the Apache Sunset and Gruene Cactus currently residing in my ink box. All that remain in my stable that can now be used with those offerings from Noodler's are an Ahab and a Safari . I guess I'll just have to get some more inexpensive pens...

sbrebrown I wonder if Nooder's Liberty's Elysium is a good ink for taking notes in lectures? Is this a stable/reliable, fast enough drying, easily reread ink?

I would say so.

I got it finally! After about 6 months of use, I compare it to Noodlers Bad Blue Heron and it is a more stable and a bit darker blue, yes, but it also has this tendency to dry in solid "flakes" or "chunks" which ends up completely jamming the feed. I noticed this because my pen started skipping pretty badly (for a decently expensive pen (Lamy Studio)) and when opening the bottle I confirmed it because their was tons of solidified ink residue between the bottle and cap. I suspect this chucky stuff to have formed in my feed and its going to need a thorough flushing. So, Liberty's Elysium Vs Bad Blue Heron Recap: Liberty: Pros: Liberty is darker and stays the same blue. Writes smooth with 0 skippage (at first) Cons: If let to dry, say bye bye!. Bad Blue: Pros: "Badass" blue color (since its so different from a normal blue blue), NEVER degrades or gets erased. Cons: Gives off organic solvent fumes (smells a little like acetone, but different). This doesn't matter for short notes and you will get used to it but it CAN be annoying sometimes when writing for long, inhaling the stuff for too long isn't too fun. Comparatively to Liberty, it feathers a tiny tiny bit more but this isn't noticeable unless on the cheapest paper possible (aka, worst than printer paper. You're fine writing on printer paper). THE COLOR! Although it is badass, it changes all the time for no reason! Some days it can be darker, other days lighter. This might bother some people a lot, it might be a selling point to others. For me, I did find it cool but in the long run it got annoying not knowing what blue I was going to get when using my pen... Thats why I sometimes prefered Liberty. As I write this, I can feel the pain I get from smelling bad blue! Finally, if you only had to buy one of these two, I would go with Bad blue. Live through the smell, and get the most flowy(never clogs, decent flow too)/cool/permanent blue out there! Thanks sbrebrown !!!

What if you just get another one instead of having to decide between these two? I got my Baystate Blue to use in lab books since it's pretty much permanent. It only has a slight smell, looks awesome and flows very well even in a Japanese EF Steel nib. (Pilot Calligraphy clear pen)

Hi, And thanks for this and all your Incyclopeadia thingies. I love this Noodlers Ink almost worth getting for the label. Well in my opinion. I love what I imagine this might look like on cream paper. Any mid blue on cream and purple and brown look great on very good quality cream paper, having side that I cannot recall the name of the paper, I do know it is around 100-110 µ.

I think i agree with you on that. I guess i would not mind using Noodler's in my Safari, Joy and Nib Creeper. As for Vista, i might try the other 3 colours but maybe not LE. I'll test the LE in my Preppy later on to see just how hard it is to clean. Good inks just high maintenance. Guess ill stick to my Lamy inks for my 580 and M800 for now. Derik

Hi Stephen, I was wondering if the italic was a 1.1, 1.5 or 1.9. It looks like a 1.1. For someone who wants to experience an italic nib, which size do you suggest? The 1.1's often look very ,very fine on the cross stroke. I've often found little difference in the regular fine to medium nib (such as in the lamy nibs), but a broad nib is decidedly different. The 1.1's often look a step back from the broad nibs, but the 1.5 seems to be a much more emphatic italic. (1.9's often look unwieldy, unless writing very large.) Thanks for all the excellent videos!
