Thank you so much Nick.. It is very useful and informative . In 9:20 if you want the text to perfectly align horizontally on the circle, here is a simpler way: 1. Before applying text on path effect, make sure to center-align the text (not to the left nor to the right nor justify) 2. Apply the put-on-path effect. 3. Select the circle and rotate it 90 degrees clockwise The text will sit perfectly horizontal on the circle!

Superscript is like an exponent in math; it is smaller and shifted upward. It can be any text, however, it does not need to follow a number like an exponent. Subscripts are similar, but are shifted downward instead. Both are very useful in technical drawings.
@annabellak.28646 жыл бұрын
Great tutorial, I've never used Envelope deformation. "Convert to text" can be used to finalize text after the "flow into frame" command without turning it to path. It makes the text as it had manual linebrakes (enter pressed at the end of each line) and then you can delete the shape itself. It also can be used with the kind of flowed text you get by drawing a text box with the text tool before typing (as opposed to just clicking). So it basicly turns flowed text into regular text. But it's worth to mention, that you can only have justified alignment with flowed text not regular text. I hope it makes sense, I'm not English and sometimes overcomplicate sentences :)
@afs2084 жыл бұрын
subscript and superscript are usually for referencing or for eg 12th , the "th" will be at the top as a superscript. The subscript will be at the bottom of the word, for example equations such as Sigma a+c will have "a+c" at the bottom.

Great video! I'm sure you know this already, but I just want to add another option for the problem at 11:12 as it's not always so easy to find things that you can't see, and sometimes there are just too many to deselect in order to be left with your object. You could go to View > Display Mode > Outline (or toggle through the view modes with Ctrl + 5) to show all the outlines of all the objects that you've created. Then just left-click on the desired outline and toggle back to Normal View before selecting a visible color.

Another tip concerning fonts, in windows, you can copy *.ttf from any unzipped file or *.otf and paste them into C:\Windows\Fonts. it will automatically install the fonts for you, if you have a lot of fonts to install. Goes a lot faster than clicking each separate file and click the install button Kind regards Hans

Nick thanks a lot for this video it solved a big problem for me as a beginner. I could enter text okay but when I tried to press enter to add text to a new line my text would seem to disappear. Also when trying to flow text into a shape it would disappear also. When I watched this video and you explained space between lines I noticed that my was set at 300. The text box enlarged so long that I couldn't see the text unless I really zoom out. I set it back to 1 and it works great. I thought that I had a bug in the program before. Thanks

2:20 Hi Nick, Random trivia ahead. I think both are used for citation notations above and below the document's base text. Along with H or V offset, it uses a smaller font size. 'Word' has an interactive-automatic feature option and you no longer have to go to the subscript setting to activate it. It will update placement and (hover) auto-links to the corresponding footnote or reference. Moons ago I thought I used this in MLA assignments. Replaced with; ('citation link')? Cheers, Constance.

I know this is an old tutorial but have you worked with any font managers Nick? Most popular examples are probably FontBase or Suitcase Fusion. I have a license for FontBase but I have a hard time getting activated fonts to show up in Gimp and Inkscape. Might be a good topic for a video.

Great tutorial! Really love these lessons! I am wondering just how many aspects of the version (1.0.1) I am using have changed, and whether or not the changes are better or worse, since this wideo was uploaded 4 years ago. In particular, I noticed that "Path Effects Editor" simply says "Path Effects" with same shortcut keys. When selecting this, I do not see the same pop up options demonstrated in the video, but rather, a blank sidebar window with a plus sign that, when clicked opens a window showing titled "Live Path Effects Editor", which, in turn show a group of numerous available effects for whatever object (in this case, text) I may be working. My point is simply that I initially found this confusing because of my lack of familiarity with this program and it's features but was, after a bit of experimentation, finally able to achieve the demonstrated effect. I am overwhelmingly impressed with what I have discovered INKSCAPE is capable of, and so happy that I didn't initially purchase a familiar product like Corel Draw when searching out Graphics Design Software. Thanks again Nick for this, and other, great Tutorials for Inkscape. Look forward to learning a great deal about Inkscape and, possibly, GIMP by means of these lessons.

Hi, 'CONVERT TO TEXT' You've probably discovered what this is by now but I had a load of trouble with installing a small red chili image in Adobe Indesign for use in an oriental restaurant menu. I didn't have Inkscape then but it might be exactly what I needed. If the chili object can be converted to text then it can be run into a line of text and behave like a normal text character. Maybe?

On Linux you can also install fonts by creating a folder called .fonts (the period hides the file) and extract all your font variations there all at once so you don't have to install them one at a time. It's also useful because then all your fonts are in your home folder so you can easily grab them and send them to a client or transfer them to another machine. Your computer should automatically recognize the font folder and they will show up next time you load your program just like you showed. I am interested though, does anyone know what folder in the system fonts are installed to when you install them the way shown in this video? I'd like to know.

I am sure someone already pointed this out but in case they have not toggle superscript and subscript is something you would do for part of your text. So if you were to have "52" as text and you selected the "2" and then toggled superscript the two would become a square or become tiny and be placed above the 5. The following link would show how this would look. Not sure how valuable this would be in an image editor but I guess it could come in handy. cdn.osxdaily.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/Subscript_superscript_example.png

I've just encountered a problem you can possibly help me out with. I have text on a path, and I curved the path so the text will also be curved. I then made my curved path invisible somehow so it wouldn't show up in my final render. I grouped all my text and other objects together, but now I want to go back and edit my text again, so I un-grouped everything, and for some reason I can't seem to find my curved path that my text is on! Regarding the "Convert to text" feature - according to Inkscape FAQ, it has to do with the way the flowed text is stored in the SVG format. Since flowed text is not a regular feature of SVG format this will cause problems if you use the SVG outside of Inkscape. If you do not, this command is useless.
