**CORRECTION** It turns out there aren't multiple copies of the image, it's just linked copies of the original image, meaning it shouldn't affect performance as much.

Almost wish there was an option to create multiple images, so the clip position would remain static. I'm assuming if you move the letters around, it'll adjust to a different position on the background.

OK, this is important, because having as much jpg, png or bmp images as poligons isn't good at all!!! I wil test this feature in order to understand the impact on performance and file size!!! Thnks Nick!!!
@infinitivez5 ай бұрын
@@XJRULO Well, Nick's correction says it doesn't, they're only links to the image data inside the file, which makes sense. I want to try this out to see if I can easily detach from the original without rasterizing the letters individually, so they can keep the background positioning. But I have a feeling it won't be possible. (which is fine, it's just an added consideration)

Nick is likely to be mistaken. I doubt Martin would forget to just set the images to be linked to a single instance. It most likely won't have any noticeable impact on file size or performance. There is no reason to duplicate the image.

Thanks for posting this! I have noticed when using the Shape Builder tool over a raster image with two shapes over the image, that once the tool is selected and I click on one of the shapes, the second shape just disappears. The Shape Builder tool is set to Add Section, and the raster image and the two shapes were selected before using the Shape Builder tool. So maybe they will fix that in the next update.

Couldn't you merge all the letters into one object, then apply the clipping? PS - with the new system, if you drag-move one letter, does the background (of that letter) move too?
@CTRL_SMarcos5 ай бұрын
Yes, it would move, after all it is a clip.
@LogosByNick5 ай бұрын
Yes, but it would only function as a single object. This breaks it up into separate objects.

If you move the *nodes* of the clipping path, it will not move the background. So you can choose to move or not move whichever way you feel is useful.

So what happens if you then move one of the letters? Does the clip position stay static or does slide relative to where you place the letter on the canvas?

If you move the object, the image moves, if you move the clipping path (using the node editor tool) the background stays still.
@infinitivez5 ай бұрын
@@doctormo Ty for that. I figured as much considering how much more work it would take to make them static captures when they're just clip masked. Rasterizing it or creating a grouped layer, only takes an extra step anyhow, if I need it.

So… masking raster images with vector shapes. I fail to see the revolution as I’ve been using this feature for 25 years now on various image editing softwares, not only Photoshop or Illustrator. The surprise for me is that Inkscape was not doing it until now. Explain to me why this is unprecedented because as far as the demonstration goes, this is definitely not new and I might add more complicated than how other softwares have been doing it for decades.
@LogosByNick5 ай бұрын
I'm going to have to disagree with you there. If you were to do this with clipping masks you would have to duplicate 10 copies of the image (one for each letter) and then clip each one individually. This feature produces that same result with one function. Illustrator's Shape Builder doesn't work with images and Photoshop doesn't even have a Shape Builder, so I think you're missing the point.
@yannsalmon29885 ай бұрын
@@LogosByNick OK, I understand. If you want to make individual masked images shapes, I admit that is convenient. Still, calling it a revolutionary feature seems a bit exaggerated in my opinion.
