~2:40 to ~2:47 Most convenient way is to show white objects even outside page area, then this is the best solution, goto menu->File->Document properties. Under the page tab, on the bottom you can see Background, under that enable CheckerBoard background, now the whole screen turn into checker board background even outside page area. With this you can create white filled objects without losing their position.

This series has "explain like I'm 5" energy and I'm living for it. I was trying to use Krita for vector art and I'm not familiar with either the program or the style, and I kept getting frustrated with the huge number of tools and settings that I don't need or know how to use. The fact that you can just go to the top in Inkscape and change the size by millimeters leads me to believe this program and I are going to get along.
@NoiseDay3 жыл бұрын
The fact that you can type in the hex code for colors- I might actually cry. If anybody deals with color a lot and wants a universal eyedrop tool you can use across multiple software, Instant Eyedropper is a free program I've been using for years where you click the icon and then click onto whatever color you want with pixel-perfect precision and it copies the hex code. So before even finishing this comment, I'll use it to grab the "reply" button color: #065FD4 Just two clicks and a ctrl+v and it's there. In Paint, I'd have to paste the code into google and copy the RGB values from there into the color editing tool to get the colors I wanted. With Inkscape, I can just paste the code directly in the RGB color editor.

RGB (red, green, blue) are colors to print on black paper or monitor screen. Full saturation of those will create white screen. CMYK (cyan magenta yellow black) are colors used to print on white paper. Cyan magenta and yellow in full saturation will give black color on white paper, but this is a lot of ink waste, so to avoid it black color is use instead.

As a previous comment stated, you have your colours wrong at 5:20. White means that all your RGB colours are at 100%. The top bar is your Reds. If you decrease the reds you will have a mixture of Green and Blue. When you decrease the value of the second bar which is Green, you will have more Blue, giving the dark blue. But in general your tutorial is solid and explains things well. Keep up the good work! :D

We went over how it will bring back whatever settings you used last but is there a quick way to return it to the default setting? If I want to draw a green pacman without a line and then a red square with a large line and deformed in all directions and a purple star that has a pattern in it I don't want to have to undo all of those settings to just draw a simple circle, rectangle and star. You may have showed this but if you did I'm sorry I missed it.

Nice tutorial, TJ, but the explanation on the colors starting @5:25 isn't correct. The fill color is white and you say we have 0 each of red, green and blue, but the values in Inkscape are set at 255, i.e. 100% red, green and blue. The RGM color model is an additive color model: when all the colors are mixed this results in white (white areas on a computer screen are produced when red, blue and green pixels are all blazing; black areas when the pixels are "off"). This is opposed to the CMYK model, in which mixing the colors cyan, magenta and yellow produces black, as with color printers and crayons. You'll notice in Inkscape (or anywhere else for that matter) that when RGB is at 255, 255, 255 (all primary colors at max, 255 being the maximum bit value of the pixel), CMYK is at 0, 0, 0, 0 (all secondary colors are at 0%). The result is white. In your video, you achieved the blue color by droping the R(ed) down to 0, in essence shutting of the red pixels. (If you check CMYK at this stage you will find C at 100%!) Inkscape provides some non-intuitive assistance on the RGB panel because when we humans work with color on paper or computer displays, we mix the secondary colors. Next to Red there is a bar spectrum of blue (actually, Cyan); next to G(reen) we have a Magenta bar and next to Blue there is, of course, Yellow! You'll notice that adjusting any one of these colors will have dramatic results in the other two. Dropping B down to 0 to achieve Yellow, for example, makes R turn green and G turn red. (Yikes!)

FYI - starting at 5:09 your talking about the RGB values. These values range from 0 to 255. 0 being none of that Color Value, 255 being the maximum of that Color Value. The last of those bars is the Opacity Value bar, sometimes called the Alpha Value. Again, if it is to 0 then the Opacity Value of the color your setting is fully transparent. If it is 255 then the Opacity Value is at the maximum and is fully Opaque. I say the above because in the Video you start with adjusting in the "R" bar, which is the Red Value and it is at 255, but you say "We have Zero Red, Zero Green and Zero Blue" when the truth is "We have Full Red, Full Green and Full Blue". This is a common with a lot of people who graphic design software and are coming from a more traditional art and color theory background. The problem is most of these programs are designed by people who have a more computer science background. At all Zero Value then the RGB on the monitor are displaying nothing and you see BLACK. At all full Value then the RGB on the monitor is displaying all the spectrums of light and you see WHITE. This is because monitors are light sources and using lighting spectrums is the opposite of color spectrum usage in classical art mediums(painting, drawing etc.) in some ways(like adding all the colors of a spectrum in lighting gives you White, but in classical art mediums gives you Black). So when your adjusting the on the "R" bar your adjusting the amount of Red which is being displayed... Not the amount of Blue(Even those it displays a blue bar in the "R" bar area. That is a design error on their part not yours.) Same for when your adjusting the "G" bar your adjusting the amount of Green which is being displayed. As far as printing out final products on paper... well it is most likely just going to be hexadecimal format in a mapped area matrix that is being printed(Note: you can see the Hex value code during these time areas of the video in the area labeled RGBA then a field filled with letters A thru F or Numbers 0 thru 9. in Hex 00 equals a value of 1 or 0 and FF equals a value of 256 or 255 depending on how the code base interprets, but in binary it would be the lower of those values.)

Notes on Lesson 3 To change the thickness of a stroke, click on Object in the menu bar and select fill a stroke to bring the fill and stroke options. You can also right-click the object and select the option there. The Fill and Stroke Options have three tabs: The Fill Tab allows us to change the color of the object body using the RGB, HSL, CMYK, Wheel, or CMS options. In the Fill tab, next to the X there are also available options to apply linear, radial, and mesh gradient, as well as pattern and swatch. When the Pattern option is selected you can choose from many Pattern fills, or apply Blur, and Opacity effects The Stroke Paint Tab allows us to change the color of the Stroke with the same Flat color options (RGB, Wheel..). Use the Stroke Style to change the Width and other characteristics of the stroke.

Wondering if there's a way to locate missing entities. If you're working on a complex diagram with lots of objects/shapes/paths, it seems inevitable that you may misplace some from time to time. As you pointed out, you could have an object with a white fill (or no fill) and no stroke, which is, basically, invisible. But it could also could: B) have zero opacity, C) be hidden behind something else, D) be really tiny and hard to see, E) be on an invisible layer or F) be far off the page and not visible on the screen. So it'd be great if there was a listing of all objects and you could locate/select one by clicking on it in the list. Like, for instance, Xara does.

This is the best and most clear tutorial. I hope you have done a lot of others. I notice that it's often hard to select objects, to move them to make the retangles smaller, and almost impossible to skew the square, or to select colors. Selecting the strokes just can't be done after doing it a time or two. It takes many many frustrating tries to do simple movements like trying to manually make a square smaller by moving the corner. Is that just the way it is, always hard to grab or change a shape, or is there some trick to it? Is it that it I'm just new at it, or is it generally not precise and requires a whole lot of patience?
