They give an incredible advantage that makes such a state invincible in a developing country like India, provided the leaders in the ruling party aren't absolute imbeciles like those in its adjacent state are, which is a really low bar to clear.

I do agree that leaders are important but a rational electorate is essential, especially in dire situations. For instance, Bifurcated AP, an impoverished state, under TDP became #1 in GDP growth, #1 in ease of doing business, received national awards for its excellence in utilizing financial resources, received guinness book record for polavaram project, and added other welfare schemes while continuing those from before, but the people with their insatiable yearning for more welfare elected YSRCP. Now, the state is en route to becoming a destitute state. Telangana, being the smallest state with a major city, should have become #1 a few years ago in all the metrics related to growth at the very least. AP before bifurcation, that is AP+TG, under congress suffered a lot in terms of development because the party tried to convert the state into a complete welfare state even though it was hidering the growth because it ignored the economic reality of the country wherein the state is, that is, a developing country. Today, although the welfare schemes are being continued and more schemes have been added (as people are addicted to them), they are not impacting Telangana as much since it has to cater to at least 5.5 crore less people. So, while I completely agree that Telangana has become a better place after AP bifurcation, the government has left me with a lot to be desired. If it helps to make it clear that I hold no malice towards or vested interest in any of the states, I was born and raised in Telangana with almost all my friends coming from the state, but with parents who migrated from AP, both worked for the central government in Hyderabad, and I have immigrated to Norway.
