First run with Inmar's 9'6" Inflatable Tender Series Dinghy (290H-TS). The first run was in Lake Huron, near Greenbush (just north of Oscoda, MI). We were lucky to have very calm water for two days, and abnormally warm weather.
Again, as background I started with an Intex Seahawk3 inflatable (previous video), but it just didn't have the structure to handle this 2.5hp 4 stroke Suzuki outboard. I gave it a couple runs, and then decided to invest a little more ($1,373) for a proper inflatable dinghy. I narrowed my search to Bris, Newport, and Inmar as the brands I wanted to consider. I reviewed all the data on Amazon and the individual websites of Bris and Newport, but I wasn't very confident after checking some of the reviews. I had already bought my outboard from Inmar, and was happy with their service, and I liked their website. Plus, I don't generally like supporting Amazon too much, if I can avoid it, so I was happy to give money to another local American company.
All in all, the first run was a success, I like the Inmar Inflatable raft (with air floor), it gives you a nice stable platform for swimming and exploring, plus the flat surfaces allow you to easily set down drinks or food, and you can lay down across the width of the boat to really enjoy the sun. This boat had plenty of space for two average sized adults and their belongings. I was able to fit the boat inside the backseat of my Mazda 3 sedan, and the motor fit inside my trunk, plus our luggage for a short weekend. The boat is fairly heavy for one person (80 lbs), but I still managed to load it into my car by myself. In my adventure I quickly found that a pair of transom mounted wheels are a must have for one of these boats, so I'll be showing you installation and trial next. Stay tuned.

I have an Inmar 350 w 12hp 2 stroke. 20mph was my Record. Fun but at that speed I noticed it can be dangerous. I lost control once and it was scary. I really like the boat. Well made and hope to last a while.

You are painting a funny but scary visual, and you also might be a certified badass with that combination of engine and inflatable, very nice power to weight ratio. That must be fun.

Yes, I would lock the motor in the straight position, let go of the tiller, move forward and when the weight is balanced you can plane and lean in the direction you want to go to steer.

Hi, did you consider the aluminum floor version of this boat? If so, why did you go with the inflatable version of it? I imagine for storage and hauling it places? I’m considering the 290-Ts with a Suzuki 9.9. Thanks for sharing the video with us all.

Hello Kyle, your guess is spot on. I use my Mazda 3 for most of my travel, so space is limited at the moment and I wanted to keep the weight down to a minimum. One of my brothers had the aluminum floor version and he said he still couldn't get on plane with a 6 hp Tohatsu. I'm guessing a 9.9 is going to be perfect (good balance of mobility plus power). Let me know once you get up and running, I'd really be curious about what speed you are able to hit with the 9.9 on the 290-TS.

Suzuki df 9.9 , 15 and 20 are basicly the same engines , same 327cc engine blocks , and therefore 50% more expensive and 7kg heavier than 209cc 9.8hp mercury/tohatsu. I would consider buying a suzuki 9.9 in a totally different scenario.

I have 6 inflatables. I have a 6hp 4-stroke tohatsu on 3m boat, a Yamabisi 6hp 4-stroke on 3m boat, 2 Yamabisi 6hp 2-stroke on 2.7m boats. They all get on plane w/250lb loads if you sit forward starting out & have motor trimmed correctly. I also have 2 4-stroke 4hp cukusin air-cooled motors on 2.6m boats that won't plane but they push the boats well w/2 people.

and finally, :). Thanks for this series. I just bought a 9 foot Zodiac with a 5hp engine and was interested to see your performance here. Haven't had mine for a run yet. Cheers

I'm really interested in all the combinations of dinghy's and motors, it's as if the combinations are endless. My brother recently bought the Bris 10 ft inflatable with aluminum floor and a Suzuki 6 hp, he seems to just barely be able to get on plane if it's him solo (175 lbs), but can't do so with a passenger. I'm guessing the safe bet for getting on plane is a 8 hp 4 stroke (if your craft is 9 or 10 ft), if you want to do so with 2 adults and a reasonable amount of gear. Then again not everyone wants or needs to get on plane. I'm a bit unsure of my next move at the moment, I might save the money and buy a proper boat instead of investing in an 8 hp motor. The current setup gives me a great platform for getting out on the lake and keeping my footprint small when packing the raft and motor. Anyway, I hope you have a good time with your setup.

@@SebastianOats I bought a Zodiac Cadet 270 ALU with a 5hp Honda 4 stroke. I will update you with the performance once I get it on the water. I bought mine for small lakes when I go camping. If it planes with 2, great. If not that lake will not be that big. I will post a quick video on my channel shortly. Cheers

Hi Sebastien, just back from camping and trial runs with my new inflatable. With inflatable below and just myself in it I saw a top speed of 25KMH. The breaks down to about 15MPH. It had no problem getting on the plane. I was impressed when I saw the speed on the GPS track. Didn't get a chance to try with 2 people. Cheers

Hello Jamorg, thanks for the heads up, that's a beautiful lake, may I ask where that was filmed (which lake), it looks very peaceful and isolated. I'm surprised how quick your setup was able to move, that's a great speed.

@@SebastianOats Boot lake. On Vancouver Island, British Columbia. Yes I was impressed with the speed as well. When I first saw the GPS I thought it was from another day. But the outboard is far from efficient hanging down so low. The question; do I mess with it and get it faster? Or just leave it alone. :) Cheers

Hello Jamorg, I almost wonder if it would be easy to just use a length of wood or plastic on top of your transom, secured semi-permanent with either adhesive or even velcro (to try it out first), it seemed like you wanted to raise the engine 1-2 inches. It's hard to just leave things be, when you aren't totally satisfied (I know that feeling all to well). I've never been to BC, but that looks beautiful, hope i can make it that way at some point.

Is that motor as noisy as it sounds in the video ?
@SebastianOats
@SebastianOats 3 жыл бұрын
Hello Andrew, I just re-watched the video so I could weigh in more accurately. No, it seems like the camera tended to exaggerate certain audio frequencies beyond what was real. In the video it seems quite loud and even noisy, but in reality it's more quiet than that. Maybe I left the audio gain too high when I exported the video. My voice is always tough to pickup on microphone (low frequency), but in the video my voice is fairly loud, so that's another indicator to me that the gain was probably too high on the audio.
