OMG!!! BEST VIDEO EVER!!! In a word it’s accumulative, when I first started throwing from the top I wonder how I was going to hit the ball, but like you said the key is to get good at your shift, pivot and turn, when I did I began to feel the power and the snap, but like anything it took a while to change old habits but I’ll never have to change my swing again! You are the BEST OF THE BEST!!

I’ve been using this throw release throw the top the past 2 weeks since I first came across a one of your videos explaining it. So I gave it a try it took me a while to get used to it and finally I got the feel. Once you get that feel and pivot it’s unbelievable absolutely crushed pure iron shots the height of the ball flight is and distance is nothing I have ever experienced. Game changer I will never try another swing again this is all you need. Never new of mike Austin until I seen ur first video 2 wks ago and since then I think I have studied all his videos that are out there. So glad your video came on on my KZbin feed or I would never have known about the throw/release from The top.

I'm getting there with this style by adding all the little tidbits one by one. 30* posture from hips (putting butt weight a little back of heels) Right hip back at 45 degree angle (spine on top of right leg), left knee coming in ( i use to do that naturally and they told me to stop lol), right leg straightening a bit, thinking of right side pole and left side a gate closing and then opening, setting club at top with thumbs, loose shoulders and then releasing (throwing it) thru impact (thinking of the leading edge going square just under ball) works great as long as i don't turn my right hand OVER but rather keep it straighter thru impact. Have to get better or more precise at lower body pivot timing and consistent motion to make the swing even more effortless. Now I'll add more focus on the low spot to get even more consistent contact, thanks. 6 bogeys, 1 double (210 par 3), 1 birdie & 10 pars today. I see sub par rounds coming this year. I'm thinking a big benifit of this swing is i feel like I'm trying less but still getting max distances (especially driver) AND believe that's leading to less soreness after playing? Been working at it just under a month (with practice & play) and joined the site 2 weeks ago. Steve feel free to make any corrections to the thoughts and steps I'm taking. And keep the videos coming, they're all helpful, thanks.

Thanks for the tip/video, Steve. I always set the club with a forward lean, but I never get the distance like yours. You mentioned that the club head bottoms out at the stick/heal. In your swing, just at the impact, you are tilting away from the target and the head is behind the ball. Is this the reason why you are getting the lowest point Infront of the ball? I don't get a divot at all but I am not scooping either. The one difference I observed is the ball position. I keep the ball just off-of center for 6,7,8 irons and at the center for 9,pw,sw. This week, I will try your method and see.

I do like the Austin style videos. I really wish you could do something about the lighting, no not because your handsome but it makes the video easier to watch. Just watched a Cogorno/Malaska video which showed the Mike Austin flap release however, Malaska keeps rotation of forearm negligible. Any comments on this technique?

I've been actively molding my swing to the Austin Plain for the last 10 months. bio-mechanically its the best swing plain I've come across & have had no issues with the irons at all.... interesting in the process i've picked up about 15mph of speed...I was struggling at 112-115 & now for lesser effort I'm at 126-130 & no I've not done any speed training for this yet. I'm thinking I can get back into late 130s to early 140s in perfect balance for once...BTW I'm 53yrs old & on chemo for the last 14yrs (and yes it does play havoc with muscle strength & flexibility)...if I can pull this off then a younger fitter person can do wonders....just one regret; found Mr. Austins methodology too late in life:(

In the one of the previous video about the driver you said your stance width was about 12-13 inches or something that will give you a stable finish on the left post , however in your irons swing in this video appears to be more than 13 inches both for 8 iron and 3 iron. Can you please clarify? I do hold Mike Austin in the highest regard for what he understood and shared about the golf swing. He was undeniably a long and accurate hitter of the golf ball , unfortunately though a lot seems seems gets lost in translation.

14 inches at the heel and 18 inches at the toes for driver. Progressively less for other clubs. Those are my measurements...yours may vary depending on hip width and height.

@Steve Pratt Golf This was absolutely fantastic ... I appreciate it when you demonstrate these approaches with long irons especially the 3 iron so please don't stop ... The only criticism I could offer is comedial ... the title of the video ... Maybe you should have called it "The Video Golf Equipment Manufacturers Don't Want You to See" These golf swing techniques and fundamentals transcend any equipment ... Thanks for your patience and effort!!! i[f you have time can you post the elevation you were getting on your 3i iron]

How does this work with a single length set of irons? Would they all be addressed with a 7 iron shaft lean and ball position at address? (let's assume it's a 7 iron length set) or would just the shaft lean change between clubs/lofts?

I just got thru practicing your driver swing. I think I was too close to the ball to lift my elbow correctly . Idk yet tho . elbow did feel better out when i wasnt so close to the ball. What kills me I can hit up to 150 yard shot a million different different ways. I just cant stop switching instead of picking one and dialing it in. I keep having moments like owe that what bobby jones must have felt or owe this is what arnold palmer must have felt theres so many different ways that work great. I'm narrowing it down

I smashed 3 and 4 wood today with Steve’s video advice on the MA swing. Still confused a bit on the pickle jar war and who it is who advocates twisting the jar not the lid. I’ve never hit my 9 iron this long and put it next to the flag before and my fairway woods for that matter. We are talking 60 year old woods with persimmon heads, hitting them straight like a laser and longer than my long. The compound pivot was my new move as I have not yet perfected the release because I don’t know if it’s a sideways hammer or a knuckles-toward-ball hand action. But I wish I had known about Mike Austin 15 years ago. Steve is a great teacher of the swing.

The only question I have is club face, even though the bottom of your arc is consistent, by moving your ball around you’re catching the ball on a different part of the arc.
@Inmotion70

Yes exactly! This controls my angle of attack to match the design of each club and it's leading edge. Of course you will have to progressively aim your feet left as the clubs get shorter.
