In this movie we follow instrument builder hans Houkes while building an Innato flute and make it come to life. It is a limited summary of all the steps required to make an INNATO flute. In reality, the whole process takes about 3 weeks.
This harmonic three-chambered instrument can be played purely for a personal experience or for another person. It can be played by hand, on a second person’s head for an extra 3-dimensional experience or in any number of comfortable ways.
The word “Innato” means inborn, unlearned. it’s inside all of us. This instrument connects sonically to our pure innateness and is playable by anyone with hands and ears. In just a few minutes it gives an experience that shifts or opens your perception of the moment.
This movie is shot on the 27-28th of July 2023 in Lent, The Netherlands.

I’m in disbelief. The intricacies of the process require such a steady hand yet it was built so fluidly. After watching this video and really being able to follow the creation process, I know why this is such an esteemed instrument. I’m a young adult who just graduated college and I will be saving money to buy this, since I cannot afford it right now. It is worth every penny.

i dream to create similar pieces as you! ive tried to recreate some of the ones youve made with clay that ive gathered from creekbeds but to no luck. the whistle or point where the mouth piece meets the body of the instrument is really difficult to shape with clay and dry while preserving the ability for it to create sound! this is such an artform youre truly skilled and talented and gifted at making these, i hope i can create one as well as you do one day and purchcase one youve made in the future too, these are truly skillful and breathtaking pieces of artwork and sound as well. the sounds yours create even in videos with audio that probably cant compare to in person is still mesmerizing and beautiful thank you for your craft and skills its amazing

Wat een mooie (ASMR) video. Het gaat allemaal zo soepel, maar zal heel wat uurtjes uitzoekwerk en trial and error gekost hebben om zover te komen. En ze klinken ongestemd al heel goed.

Could this be made from chased/raised metal? Given enough time and effort, is it the size of the holes that define tuning?

Truly gorgeous and skilled craftsmanship, thank you for sharing this intimate perspective of your making process. It’s very humbling to watch your mastery of the finely-tuned skills and sensitivities with clay that are needed to bring such a beautiful, vibrant instrument to life. I especially enjoyed seeing the tuning process pre and post firing, as you intuitively manage the many factors that can affect the sound and tonal qualities of each chamber (drying and firing shrinkage rate, finger hole size, sharpness and angle of the fipples, etc). They are stunning harmonic works of art, thank you for sharing your incredible craft!

Hello, your video is beautiful, thank you ! I would really love to try to make one. I saw you used an app to put the instrument in tune. Can you tell me what app it is please ? And what numbers am I looking for when using the app to have the same sounds as this one ? I’m sorry if my comment is annoying, you don’t have to answer if you don’t want to. Anyway, thank you very much for your video ! I would love to buy an instrument from you but it will have to wait, being a student doesn’t help with money x) but once I can I’ll probably buy one !

Hi there, this is not a Huaca but a development that came from it, the Innato. The tuning is done by different protocols: tuning holes, the hood over the labium, shape of labium and making holes bigger or smaller
