I was on a business trip and in a hotel elevator when Wayne Brady stepped in on the next floor. There were two other people on the elevator but when doors, which were mirrored, closed he saw me behind him and turned around and said good morning to me with a big smile. His energy was pure kindness. It emanates from him. I will never forget that moment. He wasn't as famous as he now but I knew who he was. He is so talented and I wish him only the best in life and love.

I am such an introvert. I can go days without talking to anyone. After hearing Wayne, I will try to be more social but I don't know. I like being alone. That way there are no expectations from anyone. It's safe. Thank you so much for putting yourself out there.

I am introvert also and spend a lot of time alone. However, I don't feel lonely because I enjoy my own company and I pray more. However, I too want to become more social to have a True friend to hang out with at times. But, I know to do this I have to put forth an effort or it won't happen. Until I do, I will continue to enjoy my own company and be prayful.

I know exactly how you feel, I think. It was good for me to hear/see this conversation. I, for the first time, see what took me so long to understand depression and to try to get help. When I was growing up my family, grandma, elders etc, always said that mental illness was not a thing. When saying your feeling down or alone or have anxiety (one think I also have bad) was just an excuse for laziness or that it wasn't real or why don't I make friends easily. I was told a lot that I'm just fine and be thankful for what I have. My family is from the south, mostly Kentucky, and I'd hear them talking about depressed family members (they did not say the D word, of course) and saying that they just needed to pray more. Glad things have progressed for the better and mental illnesses is now known as a disease and something that needs medical attention.

@nreynolds75243
@nreynolds75243 4 жыл бұрын
When I hear ex-couples say these positive views about one another, then WHY AREN'T YOU STILL MARRIED? I think these days and times people are too selfish. When you are married you have to give and not just give on surface. You hear about how people are more lonely now than ever before. In my opinion people don't want to spend the time it takes (make a commitment) to get to know someone on a deeper level. No one wants to make sacrifices. As soon as it gets tough, then the quit mindset kicks in. You can't have a fair weather marriage or any kind of relationship for that matter. No real relationship will happen unless you "give" of yourself freely. Put "me" behind you.

Have you been married to someone who is clinically depressed? In this interview, he says his wife kept urging him to seek help and talk to someone. He didn't seek help until the end of the marriage. There were probably other issues as well but I am glad they are in a good place and co-parenting.
@nellan6930

he also said the marriage came about to bring his daughter into this world.. the ex wife didn't like that answer too much that's why she said without their daughter she will still love him. their great co-parents not lovers . when he failed at his marriage that brought on another set of guilt when he didn't want to get married from the start.

My ex-wife was my best friend. After we got divorced, I wanted to be friends after the break up, but my wife wanted no parts of me. Even though she cheated on me. I understood her personal problems, that lead to her emotional breakdown and a need for her to cheat. I forgave her, and tried to help her, but she wanted to move on. She also blamed me for her short comings. I believed she had feeling of guilt, for what she's done to our marriage, so by breaking all connections with me, she can keep herself from feeling remorseful for her actions.

Thank you for talking about working on your stuff. This is the most helpful thing you could possibly do to "give back" to the world and help raise consciousness. I think they both really love and are still to a degree in love ...him more than her. But it's VERY PAINFUL to live with a clinically depressed person. Then if you add that he's an introvert to it and the isolation is even worse as far as communication and their ability to let someone in or to show genuine affection or feelings. He has gotten much better over the years since his nervous breakdown. He used to hardly ever give any interviews much less talk about being depressed. He is such a talented person. But he cat act his way through life which is sad for ALL of us. I believe he hasn't gone further in his stardom or career because of his crippling depression. It is truly an illness that ppl do not understand. I'm praying for him. I hope others will also.

@@nickrachjames Anyone my to explain... What? Yes, being called racist names is racist. I said that most black men make racist comments about about black women in that situation by calling them a slave mistress(or something similar) or saying that they are serving the devil if they are with a white guy or even a light skinned black man.. If you do not want to call it racism, call it something else. There were comments like that on a page about Tatyana Ali, and the same type of comments about the lady from Bob Hearts Abishola. Tatyana's husband is black, but his skin is light. The actress on that sitcom is only playing a part, and she is being called horrible names.

I can relate with Wayne when he mentioned on The Masked Singer that he's an introvert. So when he says here he can go a day without talking to someone, I'm the same way. I can go even longer. However I'm a different kind of introvert as Wayne. I don't like getting up in front of people. Don't need or want the attention drawn to me and don't like being the center of attention. I like talking 1 on 1. However I can go to a concert or to a restaurant where there is a crowd of people but I need to have space within that crowd. I've been told by co-workers that I'm analytical and that I was complicated. I don't fit into societal norm and never have. I choose to be me. But introverts tend to be inside their own heads alot and we see little details that other's miss. I think this can lead to depression as well. We see and experience every little thing going on around us. In so many households mental health isn't discussed and that isn't good. I was raised in a 2 parent household where everything was discussed. My father talked to me about sex. There was no shame in his game. My mother talked about her depression and she had to take medication.

I am a seasonal introvert. I for some reason don't like the holidays because I don't want company or visitors. But at work, for some reason I adapt with my multiple personalities. I can change my personality like a switch. Depending on who I am talking too. It's almost like I take on the individuals personality. Maybe this is called being FAKE! I don't know but it is hard being my normal laid back self, because people take me for granted. So I have learned to conform to the situation or individual rather be myself.
@nreynolds75243

@@cinnamon3220 Don't ever stop being the awesome individual you truly are. No need for fakeness. There's too many around already. Embrace who you really are and you'll be more happy. The right real people will come along. Don't feel like you HAVE to be extroverted to be accepted. If you sit back and pay attention alot of them are very insecure and have no depth. They constantly need someone's validation and usually are the bullies or the ones who cause other's trouble. They jump from person to person and don't really KNOW anyone. Don't make very good real friends. Not all extroverts are this way but alot are. Just be you. I've experienced alot of ignorance and bullying from extroverted people. I've learned as I've gotten older, they are the ones with the issue, not you. I speak up and out when I need to and keep being me that God made. God always will love who you really are. That's the only person I'm concerned with.

@Ace Lee The view of being social is different for everyone. Most people think if you're not loud and talking to a million people then somehow there's something wrong with you. It's their own narrow view of the world. Some people are fine with alot of people around, some are fine with a handful of people around, some are fine with just 1 person around, some are fine with none. Some may need association all the time and some not so much. That's why we are called individuals. We aren't clones. I'm the same way. I like being alone more and prefer it. I don't pretend to be nothing else but me. If people don't like it, they don't have to be around. More peace. It's nothing wrong with you.

Can completely relate to isolating. If work doesn’t demand that I have to be around people I can also retreat into total solitude and not interact with anyone and be happier that way. It’s s welcome relief not having to be mentally and physically taxed by having to engage with anyone. I get what Wayne is saying. I too have been that way since my youth and each year the need to avoid social situations grows tremendously.

Introvert here . I often tell friends and family to reach out if they don’t hear from me for too long. I get too comfortable in my own solitude( love it) but I know that is not always good to be alone( you get caught up in your head). For that reason having people that will get me out of my conformes sort of balance me out. Also have some friends that are either bipolar or suffer from depression . If I don’t hear from them after two weeks, I be calling them Or dropping by to make sure that they are ok . I always tell people that to stay sane sometimes you need a whole team helping you and any little effort counts.

Wayne is the most well known of the two, and the episode is about two people co-parenting while also working through their own inner struggles. But you are correct that Mandie should be credited for the amazing work she does. That’s why host Dr. Van Dahlen mentions it in the interview, and at 1:05 you can see Mandie’s title listed as “Actress/Entrepreneur”

They are the perfect example of friends becoming a couple and then realizing that they are better as friends. It happens. it's just wonderful that they realized this and continued as friends and are both their for their daughter. I wish that could have happened with my ex and myself. That wasn't the case sadly. I am lucky to have found my current husband of 16, going on 17 years and we have fought for our relationship and have a beautiful 14 year old son. I wish I could have been able to help raise my daughter, but when my divorce happened, to have a roof over my head, I had to move out of state and she was better off with him as he had a stable home and was working at the time. I did what was best for her, even if it broke my heart. Anyways, I commend them for being the best people they can be for themselves, each other, and their daughter, kudos!!!
