Interesting to learn about the cheap components and cost cutting. In your experience, which AIB manufacturer uses the highest quality design/components in their card designs (overall, and high end like 4090s)? I'm guessing EVGA was up there at the top before they got out of the market. My guess for current manufacturers is Asus. Another inquiry, have you ever considered offering a service to essentially upgrade cards? Either for making them both more reliable, and overclockable through higher quality components (excluding the GPU chip itself of course), or through adding memory capacity on lower end cards where this is possible without too much complication. Anyway, love the videos. The knowledge, and patience, you have is unmatched. Thanks!

@@GregoryShtevensh My Gigabyte Gaming OC 4090's fans started rattling horribly about 2 werks into ownership after buying it on launch day. I'd rather have coil whine. They're somehow still not dead, just a horrible rattle on any speed that permeates my noise cancelling headphones entirely. I don't want to deal with their terrible RMA policy, and be out of a card for ages though, with no cross ship option.

Great work! The owner was scraping these chips with some metal object to clean TIM / residue off these chips. With KZbin being out and available, people need to watch several different people. Remove and install GPU coolers before even trying it. Otherwise it'll probably be cheaper for them to hire somebody to do it.

Arent the warranty stickers illegal in europe? They can be valid way to decline rma only if there is physical damage I thought? ( havent watched the full video yet)
@TrekCZ
@TrekCZ Жыл бұрын
Not illegal, warranty stickers are irrelevant and they are like they do not exist. The buyer of this card have not challenged Inno3D because they know very well they wrecked the card by their hammer like treatment. But correct approach should be Inno3D rejected RMA with reason "mechanically damaged card". Not tampered sticker.
@Arhey
@Arhey Жыл бұрын
In the US they are not legal, in EU they are. At the end it is goodwill from the manufacturer if they accept RMA or not. In this case it is totally fine, that manufacturer declined the RMA, since there was even visible damage.

Thanks for another interesting and informative video !! And I can't help but wonder what they were thinking when they decided to make the heatsink that way!? Why make it so that it requires 2 different pad thicknesses ?? Not to mention that they "pinch pennies" by omitting components on a 4090!!!??? How much must a GfxCard cost in order for them to 'include all components"... I think it's outrageous...

I thought the warranty stickers could not be enforced anymore. I know in the United States they cannot be enforced. Also, I do know from personal experience some companies asus will refuse to repair something under warranty if it has a simple, small cosmetic, scratch on the PCB. even on a corner near a screw away from any type of traces. For that reason, I’ve been buying all my graphics cards from Micro Center and buying the accidental coverage that way if anything happens especially during water block, installations or overclocking they cover it 100%.

Repair as usual good. But what impressed me the most was that you asked the user about the socket. It would *never* have occurred to me that someone could put something in the socket when installing a water block. This is beyond the level of abstraction. Observing what you are repairing, it's as if at least 30% of the cards are damaged by the bottomless stupidity of users. And these are not some complicated mistakes, but the basis of using electrical devices. This is like mantra: water block, liquid metal, water block, liquid metal. This is some kind of mental collapse.

I like to buy used graphics cards but always spare those that are transverted to waterblocks. The thing is people in general are just too clumsy. You would imagine somebody who's gonna perform a water cool transversion to his 1000$ GPU is at least a PC hardware enthusiast that knows what he does. But I was terrible wrong there. I once bought a 2080ti that litterally had some tiny little chips missing from the edge of the die. Rly tiny and superficial so the card still worked. Nonetheless I returned it, as Im a miner and need my cards reliable and serviceable without fearing it will break the next time I tighten the cooler back to the pcb.

It's normal? what worries me is the temperature of the VRam.

modifying recent graphics cards these days is like modifying modern passenger cars, is not worth it. The Nvidia 3-4000 series have very good and large cooling. One good modification for cards is using 120mm fans and removing the shroud but that is also not worth it (due to good large fans of recent cards) unless you have defective fans.

Mps may be better but Asus, MSI and founders, who use it, have more coil whine compared to gigabyte, Zotac and reference designs (like inno3d). Could be unrelated, though.
