Efforts to promote fish farming in low-income countries aim to improve food security for rural communities living in poverty. However, many initiatives have fallen short due to the lack of local fish feed production, resulting in underdeveloped fish stocks and poor harvests. To address this challenge, the team at the Natural Resources Institute (NRI), University of Greenwich used Simulation-driven Participatory Technology Development to create the machinery for on-site fish feed production. This innovative solution has already had a significant impact on food security for indigenous communities in Peru and smallholder farmers in Kenya. The machines are now produced locally, providing economic benefits to both manufacturers and local communities.
