🎬Archaeopteryx-Lightest Sailplane In The World🎬
It is Archaeopteryx or Archaeopteryx glider, takes name from the ancient first Dinosaur bird. Archaeopteryx is single seat and the lightest sailplane in the world.
The Archaeopteryx can take off and land almost anywhere just like a hang glider but it flies like a conventional sailplane.

How much? No doubt shockingly expensive, well beyond the budget of 99% of us watching this! This craft was invented back in the late 80' to early 90s by an aeronautical engineer. I remember watching him demonstrate it, self launching like a bird, with his own two feet. Genius. He designed and built it himself with carbon fiber. It made such an impact on me, seeing a self launch plane that could glide effortlessly, I never forgot it. Looks like they finally put his idea into actual production. What attracted me was, with plans, you could build one yourself affordably.

Also, propper flight training is much more critical than propper drinving lessons (which are still important), and that goes beyond knowing how to operate the aircraft. You'd need training about weather, dangers you might not be aware of rn, control zones etc.

@oldschoolman1444 Seems to me that electric motor is more useful for landing, needing extra air time to get to an appropriate site. You could fly it over water, beach, knowing you have 20 minutes despite updraft running out? Missing is boat launching, and high tower weight drop. 😂 Maybe a bicycle, dropping bike like an extra fuel tank. Unicycle?

@robohippy
@robohippy 4 ай бұрын
Okay, so what is the stall speed? If you are going to consider foot launch and landing, you would not be able to do it in calm wind conditions, which would require a steady head wind. I would expect a stall speed in the 30+ mph range. We can't run that fast, and in any thermal conditions, foot landing would be dangerous to some one with minimal experience. I had a lot of hang glider experience. Any one can fly them, but taking off and landing is the hard part, and unfortunately for a number of friends I lost or were injured, this was the part of learning that was least practiced.
