Something about how he killed his own emotion, wear fake smile, and how he actually want to be in the team but always rubs everyone the wrong way and cause misunderstandings are very interesting and relatable for me at that time. Ino sai actually make sense as sai is awkward and also mentally blocked courtesy of danzo and root, and ino being of yamanaka clan specialised in mind and feelings like things so they both complement each other. I usually think ino is best choice for sai as she could understand his emotions far better then any other female character.

Yeah, Sakura got Sasuke at the end but I think Ino is the real winner because Sai is much more pleasant and charming as a person, Sasuke on the other hand is still cold even after everything and has a shit ton of personal issues, plus he isn't present in his family's life at all, so I think Ino probably dodged a bullet by not pursuing Sasuke and getting with Sai instead
