Perfect timing! Our AC went out and the first thought was getting the car to the mechanic. Then I saw your video and it jogged my memory when the same issue happened on a car I owned 35 years ago. Same relay-swap trick worked then and now, and only $8 later we have AC again. Thanks!

Just a couple thoughts from a retired mechanic with 40 years A/C experience: First, NEVER, repeat, NEVER wear rings or jewelry while working on a vehicle. It's a major safety hazard. Second, it is advisable to use a manifold gauge set so you can monitor the high side pressure also. You could have a restricted condenser or a blocked expansion valve and not know it. For example, with a blocked expansion valve you would have an abnormal low side pressure reading, making you assume it needs more refrigerant. If you also had a high side gauge, you would also see an abnormally high pressure. Those cheap do it yourself kits are not always the "fix", and can be dangerous for the novice to use by overcharging a system and not monitoring the high side pressures. Let's be safe out there!

You just save me so much money! I had this exact same problem, and swapping relay fuses fixed it 100%! Thank you so much!

I was looking for other possibilities for this problem on a recently purchased 2009 CR-V. I had a 2003 CR-V and I know the compressor makes noise when the bearings go out. This particular CR-V isn't making any noise, just no cool air. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU...just checked the relay and that was the problem.

dude thank you so much for this video. I thought my ac needed a recharge so I took my 2009 crv to a shop and they said it was $65 a pound to fill the ac. I agreed to it ...then they came back and said the compressor died and needed to be replaced. but they'll do a diagnostic that will go toward parts and labor if I agreed to the work. I told them I'll be back Monday morning. found your video. did the relay swap - that was it. a bad really. went to the Honda dealer and picked up a new relay. now everything this fine. I'll prob add refrigerant just to be safe so it doesn't go empty. again thanks to your vid I'll do work myself. thank so so much man!!

Glad this helped, I wouldn't add 134a unless it's truly low or you could damage your compressor. Some 134a cans come with a gauge on them so you can hook it up and check low side pressure. It should be around 30 psi after the compressor cycles from being on to off.

Thanks a whole lot! Swapped fuses and A/C worked!!!

There are two or three more things you would want to check before replacing the compressor since they are pretty pricey. One is checking for command at the compressor itself and the other is checking the termal protector. It only costs about $40 and can be replaced fairly easily and I've had many people come in for compressor replacement when it ended up being a cheaper fix.

My sister is 200 miles away and 2 shops misdiagnosed the problem. Does anyone really follow TS procedures or they start with the most expensive part and work their way down? No mention of the Thermal Limiter or the clutch being the problem or testing. She has an electrical control problem they are looking at tomorrow.

Can see the clutch from the easy way of how you showed it done. Not with pulling the power steering pump out, that's not a must do thing or is it ? I have seen some do this but can't do nothing from top, all done from bottom, even with helping the serpentine belt on which can be a witch with a B.

Ac compresor has no good ventilation due to it's location. Get's too Hot and burns the clutch.

Looks like it's still a scroll compressor, just like the Keihin one. Why not a reciprocating one? A good old SD7H15 or SD5H09, for example?

Will an inop compressor/compressor clutch cause high pressure in the system?
@uproar991317 күн бұрын
No, Static pressure in the a/c system should be around 75-80 psi

Honda crv 2011 compressor changed. Airs good now heat does not work, it's cold. What now?
@uproar99133 жыл бұрын
Would be an odd coincidence if the heat worked before the new A/C compressor. Several things could be happening, the first thing I would check is the water valve going into the heater core. There are 2 small rubber coolant hoses, maybe 3/4 of an inch going into the fire wall, one has a valve in it with a cable running to it. Adjust your heat settings in the car and make sure the cable moves.. that only makes sure the command and cable ok, internally the valve still may not be moving.

Was is the clutch that was bad?
@uproar99133 жыл бұрын
on this, the clutch and coil was the problem. replacing the compressor as a whole, replaced the thermo switch, clutch and coil and the compressor. which are also known potential problems

You should have a shop evacuate freon. Depending on the shop labor rate and time (around 1 hour). 60/90$
