from what I've seen with this depiction of Inostrancevia, considering how it's primary prey appear to be large bulky herbivores built on strength rather than speed, how Inostrancevia would appear to have vibrant colours that do well in making them hide within darkness while being flashy, not to mention therapsids could of posed the ability to regenerate teeth like reptiles, I would pose the idea that this here is meant to be an ambush predator built for more nocturnal hunting while being able to rely more on strength rather than speed while having long canines to be able to efficiently tare out the throat once the prey is tackled to the ground and immobilized, incredibly similarly to how Smilodon was hypothesized to behave except for the idea that if therapsids were able to regenerate their teeth like reptiles, then Inostrancevia would of been able to lose it's canine teeth and essentially live off of scavenging or potentially hunting smaller prey like the dicynodonts until eventually regrowing their canines, making it so they wouldn't have to rely on pack hunting if at all, and really only need to hunt during the night if they want maximum terms of success
@athos92937 ай бұрын
Does this imply that they could hibernate to restore teeth after feeding from a successful hunt?
@athos92937 ай бұрын
Like getting into a cave and sleeping with their stomachs full
@nethergollum42197 ай бұрын
@@athos9293 I'm honestly not all that sure about if it would be the most viable for them to simply hibernate until their teeth were restored again, but they can definitely live more cautiously and recover far better with losing their teeth than smilodon or other long-fanged predators if they were to be able to regenerate their teeth, even if it is arguably possible for them to constantly shed teeth throughout their life and constantly regrow them throughout their lives as well at that, potentially making this sort of behavior far more mundane and natural in their minds if their canines were to break
