Bageshri raga found widespread popularity in Carnatic Music by 20th century only. the Hindustani ragam was said to have been first sung by Miyan Tansen, the celebrated court singer of the Emperor Akbar in the sixteenth century! In our carnatic music system said to be derived from the equivalent Melakarta of Kafi thaat, the 22nd Melakarta called Kharaharapriya. Since its devoid of panchamam n rishabam in the ascending scale./ie. an audava-sampurna ragam, it is classified as a janya ragam. Here the composition of Ramanataka kirtana by Arunachala Kavirayar is sung beautifully in her mellifluous tone, by Bombay jayasree. [Here Charanam 1 n 3 are skipped ; of course all vocalists sing just one Charanam , sometimes two charanams in respect of all compositions nowadays! ], best wishes. This song was sung by erstwhile vocalists in Vasantha or Mukhari ragams alone. Though of late few sings in Beghasri, still many sings mainly in vasantham with vibrancy and fast mode wherein the Charanam 1 alone was included!
