This is definitely the most frustrating part about buying vintage! Most people don't condition correctly and the price variance is typically really big between NM to LP, so often sellers will not want to sell based on what the card is actually worth based on the condition.

Yea, but I think name of conditions are.. pretty bad for non-collectors. I mean if you would pick card from booster and sleeved it - you can treat it like mint/near mint/excellent. So card which was NEVER played can be tagged as 'mod played' or something. And you are 'wtf?! it was NEVER played, even in sleeve & toploader'. Some sites even said "mod play is played few games without sleeves,". I think some cards could be tagged as 'damaged' after 2 or 3 shufflings ;)

I feel the same way. I hate spending the extra money for graded cards but it’s just way more reliable and I know I’m getting what I want. MRL and MRD are some of my favorite cards from artwork standpoint.

it can have whitening on edges and be near mint still, but minor whitening a NM card can be a PSA 7 but yeah, these cards are like LP-HP for the most part

I know it's all in preference and based on the individual, but mod/heavy played or nostalgic condition cards to me are cards I would never try to sell as "lp or near mint". If you're going to sell them and say they're better than what they are, don't try to sell them to someone who deals with cards as a living. 😂 Still, some of the cards were nice.

The problem with these kinds of things is that conditions tend to be subjective. I have seen people putting Near Mint condition when clearly there's a bend on the lower corner of the card 😬

some of them were def. bad condition but in my opinion the little scuffs and scratches dont make them not NM anymore. Dont have alot of exp in grading tho, so thats that. My guess is just that they would still get a PSA 7-8

Its weird all the great playable cards were in good condition and random cards u wud nvr play were in terrible condition lol my guess is whoever used 2 play em made up version of yugioh back in the day like duelist kingdom rules summon whatever n attack. I kno me n my friends would play different stuff back then but memories are lil hazy was great times tho jus sitting on the floor n playing yugioh for hrs.

A lot of this MP stuff would still get PSA 6s even with binder dings or dimples. The VLP stuff should get PSA 7 and 8s they aren’t gem mint but still nice assuming the holo foil is pretty clean. Still a dope pickup

as a person who likes to build anime decks and cant afford to get super mint cards im normally fine with a little wear since i plan on playing with them, be it a small bend on the corner, light scratches on the foil, minor edge wear and i honestly dont care about the back too much as long as its not bend in half, but this collection looks like the type of cards i typically buy, fine for playing with but not for grading or a mint, nice collection, but no where close to M/NM.

Well, this is in bad shape in general... they're amazing cards, but they haven't been treated properly... which is a shame considering how well packaged they arrived. This is why I'm really scared to buy collector level cards online, you can get stuff like this which is really frustrating

Assessing cards is pretty simple. Pack fresh very rarely has scuffing but more times than scuffing there might be a little ding or a couple chips on the edges or even freying on the cards. That, I would still consider near mint. But if there is PLAY, it is PLAYED. It’s very easy to tell if a card is played. And unfortunately some times you will get a pack fresh card or container fresh card with scuffing that looks like play on the back and you’ll have to deem as it being played. But it’s pretty simply lol. Near mint is exactly what it is, “near mint” then VLP and LP and so on is played. To me near mint can have a ding or two but not play. Idk. I just wish a lot of sellers would be more tentative to the hobby 🤷🏽‍♂️

This reminds me of an reoccurring them I'm having on TCGPlayer. I keep receiving OBVIOUSLY not Near Mint cards and then its puts it on you to complain about it. Normally, just message the seller and they refund you (I haven't ordered any cards above $25) and its over. But then you get some folks who want you to take a different condition refund or ship it back, which is annoying bc the card should have never shipped to begin with. So I started leaving negative reviews, except even that's annoying bc then the sellers contact you begging you to change the review or they threaten to appeal. Its completely turned me off from buying on TCGP. Also weirdly, Team Rocket set Porygon has been the bane of my existence. I'm trying to complete a master set so I already had a 1st edition card. Ordered the unlimited edition 3 times and for some reason the sellers keep sending me a 1st edition instead of unlimited :/.

I was Yu-Gi-Oh champion in my state nc . I win bunch of tournaments had tournament Konami cards only from winning tournaments. Morphing Jar etc. and had millennium puzzle trophy life size. I ran a gravity bind jinzo deck with catapult turtle hyabusa knights and man eater bugs and crap load of traps and magic. Nobody could deal with it. I wonder how much that stuff be worth now. Shame I don't have any clue what happened to my stuff.

I dont understand the american condition stuff. In europe we use completly different grades. Lightly played is one of the worst grades here. We got Mint, Near Mint, Excellent, Good, Lightly Played, Poor. So i really dont know how good light played is in the US
