Hi guys, bot creator here. Thanks to Sunless for doing this awesome video! Nexto is still training over at the RLGym Twitch channel, where we also do showmatches from time to time (we've had several pros attempt the 1v2). By this point Nexto has amassed over 300k hours, and is better than the version Sunless played😉 We’ve released the version that Sunless played to RLBot, but the best is yet to come, so keep an eye out!

Cool idea, but realistically a very complicated problem. The question of what constitutes a specific mmr, that is. It could be certain inconsistencies or lack of mechanics or bad rotations and all of this is constantly changing as the mmr to skill ratio changes in real rocket league. I played this bot in golds. He was unbelievable then and has only gotten better. No lie I feel a lot better knowing it was bot destroying me not the normal golds/smurfs I'm used to beating me.

I've trained with Necto and Nexto last several days, first for my horrible kickofs. Nexto is now much stronger in aerial game. A simple Air Dribble was enough to beat him, now that is no longer working ;:)

A bot challenge ladder in rocket league sounds like an awesome idea. Have like 3 variations of bots at each rank, each variation is better at one or two things then the other. Also someone mentioned getting a title for beating nexto, so the same could be done for the challenge ladder. I feel like there is a lot you could do this.

a tip I found(as a d3/c1) is that aerial attacks(eg. an air dribble or something, or just anything higher in the air in general) are more effective because the bot is mostly ground based and isn't as good in the air, shown when it missed an aerial even at GC level. I did face it a month ago though, so it most likely got better in that time

This takes me back to the good ol days of trying to win a 1v4 game against the hardest bots in the game. Feel so good when you finally win haha

imagine if they left this bot running its training for a year or something then it would know the counter to every rocket league situation ever.

I feel that a player themselves could learn from the bot, if you get used to how it plays after extensive sessions, you'll never have to worry about flicks and you can learn exactly what challenges aren't working

As a GC3 player who played the latest Nexto version on the bot pack, yes you can learn how it plays. I can't beat it every time, but I can now win against it a handful of times. Nexto's weaknesses are: 1. Kickoffs Needs little explanation. If you leverage the ball better on kickoff, you have the advantage early on. 2. Double Touches Nexto doesn't like to protect the backboard when you're already mid-air, so double touches are essentially open nets most of the time. To Nexto, it's risky to fly for the ball preemptively and just throw the ball away when the other car (which is typically another Nexto in its training) will just recover. 3. Flip resets This one is essentially a free goal. If you set up a double touch from the wall, Nexto always expects the hit to be powerful when you fly at it or that you'll drop the ball (due to wheel hits). So a flip reset gets it over its head basically every time. 4. Non-committal Close spacing Nexto does not perform as well when you aren't giving it space, since it can't set-up its dribbles and monstrous flicks that always get around you. When you're close or have speed at it, it will flick the ball. Meaning you can just fake challenge and take the ball after if you do it right. Always recommended when the ball is in its half. When it's in your half, you can still do it but mainly in the corners, otherwise you better be top tier at baiting it just perfectly before it gets a power shot. As well, Nexto reads your jump action immediately, and thus will aerial as you do if you're close. Making it more likely to miss if you jump, don't commit, and then fly for his aerial shot which is much easier than his god-tier flicks. 5. Bumps and especially demos. The bot wasn't seemed to be trained with demos and bumps in mind at all. I assume other Next bots never bumped or demo'd it as it was playing itself in training its 250k hours. So if you can manage a demo, you can often get a free goal. Even with all this in mind though, I still don't beat Nexto every time as a ~GC3 player. I'd say my winrate is closer to around 30%-50% depending on how warmed up I am and if I'm having a bad streak. All in all though, it's a very good bot to play against as practice, especially playing a close non-committal playstyle.

Id say at this point, the only thing that makes a human better, is that the bot seems to do the same thing every time. Doesn't really seem to change it's playstyle

OMG i just can't believe this feeling of relief i'm gc 1 in hoops and 2s i played this guy for 1hour 20 min straight i swear he's just pain in the a** i kept understanding his tactic every game and how can i prevent his dribbles and flicks and i finally won 6-3 man the relief it was very fun and definitely i feel a way better improvement in counter attacks and positioning in def
