It's pretty hilarious how Grimm's lowered defense interacts with luck values. Not only does it increase Jugger's good luck, but it also reduces his bad luck. If you don't believe me, fire up the damage calculator on AWBW and see for yourself. The damage values are freaking crazy. Jugger's infantry does 49%-100% damage to Grimm's infantry on a d2d basis without powers.

hey Deej, a couple things I was thinking as the game went on: - I misunderstood how pressure worked on the map. I was trying to mount a strong defense on the bottom, and then have the option to either push a bottom city or front switch for a sandwich. maybe pressure top instead would have alleviated the bottom. - recon was a reaction (over-reaction?) to the APC. mostly to deny 10,15 city. - base skip was just flat out forgetting, no strat there - killing black boat was to take middle, but wasn't an efficient move. (also missed luck roll to 2hko) - tank needs SCOP to guarantee 1hko the 8hp AA on silo. (can kill with COP if there's chip damage, shoulda checked for that). still, there are much better ways to do that turn. better power management could have flipped the game despite my not-great opening. I think my chances went way down after this turn. got a bit too feisty with the unit count advantage. ;) -many of those artillery were intended to make a push toward a city but the push never materialized. I thought the game would be more push, retreat, push, but it was more fluid than that and tank reinforcements would have been more important. your videos helped me get this far ;) I'll keep grinding and watching vids and I'll get'cha next time!

+ losing the AA was a straight up blunder. I blame tournament fatigue (was playing vs Rimer in DC11 too) and Grimming too hard in the streets.

Grimm's offense is practically perfectly measured to bring units down to 1 HP , which results in it being like "what is even the point?"

From my experience watching a ton of AWBW content from just about all the creators out there, I have seen such a great community. In every matchup, people analyze and coach themselves, and even their opponents after the fact. Beats the heck out of screaming cuss words at the end of an SND Cod game haha. Great video as always Deej - thanks for the excellent content!

It reminds me of our 3v1 matchup, but instead of Sturm defense reducing the influence of luck rolls, Grimm's terrible defense magnifies the luck. Horrifying to a person who doesn't like the luck elements of the game to begin with!

An interesting part of this is that Medium Tank had a big unit count advantage at times in this match. But I guess if the unit composition is off, it matters a lot less...

I’ve always seen Grimm as a secondary artillery CO next to Grit. He might not have Grit’s range but he doesn’t need to worry about his lowered defenses with indirects.

Been binge watching your content after having played AW2 as a young man and struggling to even beat the Campaign with B ranks consistently. The production quality and personality in these videos puts them in the tier 0 or tier 1 of advance wars content in my book. Once you go Deej the others are mundane by comparison. I noticed as well that you have a keyboard in the background of one of your videos, and there have been a couple background tracks in your videos featuring old jazz standards like Nice work if you can get it. Are you also a musician? J

Medium tank sticking to artillery was just painfull to watch. If he wanted indirects so much, he could build a rocket and put it behind the pipe, so it could shoot units in the middle. Hell, even missile would be better, at least it would denied helicopters freedom of move. There was no way for him to launch a successful attack with Deejus units being unmolested in the middle. Helicopters would just continue to fly up and down, flanking and destroying any push.

Why I think Jugg is technically worse than Flak in basically any scenario and the worst CO: It just seems like losing damage is much worse than any gains you can get from gaining damage, and Jugger has more of this bad stuff than Flak does. Assuming you're making reasonable attacks, let's say you would have done 8 damage to something, but a good roll instead does 10 damage. That's a nice little bonus, but your target was pretty much dead anyway. Sure maybe they can repair it or block with it or something but come on, it's probably just gonna get cleaned up or have minimal impact for the rest of the game. On the flip side, losing damage can be catastrophic, turning clean kills into stalemates or worse with a bad CO power roll. There are situations where breaking a wall cleanly can be instrumental, but plenty of other COs can do that way better with or without a power, and it doesn't seem worth it to have to constantly deal with bad rolls. So on one hand you can end up with a nice little damage bonus which you probably didn't need, while on the other hand risking catastrophically bad rolls which you probably can't afford. 47:45 it took about 2 mins to come up with the same solution as you but my solution was to attack the 1hp infantry on city with the 4hp tank from the RIGHT and NOT the LEFT. 48:12 I don't understand the purpose of attacking from the left. You are not gonna kill the 1hp infantry on the right anyway so might as keep your units close. Would be great if you could give some explanation. Also I was wondering if you would accept Discord Cup replays. I had a very close match against Rader Elcaroman in the 2nd round of the 11th Discord Cup iirc. One turn could've changed the outcome of the game. It might be worth casting.

Yeah I think the right vs left doesn't matter, I got confused with another attack plan I had in the move planner that wasn't quite as good

I don't really understand the grimm hate... no matter how bad you think low defense is, doesn't grimm's opponent suffer from exactly the same thing? at worst this puts him at Andy's/Olaf's level, with his day-to-day not really hindering or helping him much on a net basis (there still seems to be a net positive effect though, so it's more comparable to hawke?) His powers seem decent enough and make him able to take on MD/neo tanks with things that really aren't supposed to... I mean, if there is mathematical data that grimm suffers more from his power than his opponent does, I might take this back. But is there? Something about the timing of subtracting luck damage maybe? btw: playing these low defense games where grimm is involved also requires a different playstyle, which helps the player that is more used to it... which is more often than not the player that plays as grimm

Just found the damage calculator on awbw and it looks like there is a net benefit to grimm vs. Andy in most situations, just not a very big one. Seems to be only mountains where the tables are turned, which is a really weird mechanic. You'd think reducing 140% to 120% is less of a big deal than 100% to 80%, but it works the opposite way.

Grimm's copters are good, but enemy copters are as good against him so unfortunately his one upside is neutralised since the enemy has the same upside

His copters have a bigger advantage than the enemy copters have, though, unless there are 2 comm towers per player.

@@Tzizenorec Yea you right nvm the difference on copter vs tank on higher terrain isnt as much as i thought. Since copter v tank is the same for both grimm and a normal dude on cities, grimm indeed wins with copters overall.
