Royal Caribbean might want to remember something-Disney priced Galactic Starcruiser through the ABSOLUTE ROOF when it opened in March 2022 and it sold out, initially--and it fell SO HARD SO FAST and it is CLOSING FOREVER at the end of the month

I’ve been on Royal several time and NCL once. I did not like NCL. To me, the food was horrible!! I didn’t like the ship nearly as much either. Its only Royal for me now! Royal has other ships that are much more cost effective. I am going on Wonder on my next cruise because I am traveling with a large group with various budgets. I will book another cruise while I am on this cruise and it will be Icon, no kids! Because some of us “old folks” love water slides, pools, mini gold, great shows and lots of food choices! 😊

@@KathieJoNevada I’m the opposite of you. Loved RCL when I went on my very first cruise ever back in 2019. It was on the Oasis of the Seas, and I thought I’d never love a cruise line more than I love RCL. Then after doing an Eastern Caribbean itinerary earlier this year with them, I’m a little burnt out on all the families and hoopla. I love NCL though. I thought the food on the Encore was way better than what I had on Royal earlier this year. Sometimes it’s hit or miss. That said, I still love Royal for their Caribbean cruises. I think they are the only cruise line that KNOWS how to do the Caribbean. Princess is great for West Coast cruises, and NCL does a great job with European sailings. I guess they all have their specialties.

It’s interesting that they’re aiming icon at families primarily- the only people I can foresee being able to afford these sorts of prices are retired couples who had careers as bankers or property developers.

I just priced the icon a few weeks ago for the July 6 sailing and it was around $9700 for a 7 day cruise with 4 adults in a balcony cabin. I went with Harmony of the Seas for about $3000 less choosing my own cabin.

Harmony is definitely no icon. Icon is also brand new on its mayden voyage. Later cruises might go down in price but it's only natural the premiere is expensive.

We just booked a Regent 7 seas cruise, ultra luxury and totally all inclusive for almost $2000 LESS than Icon. I don’t get why any adult couple traveling without kids would pay that for Royal, but to each their own.

Single cruiser here 👋. I am *SO* with you. The last time I cruised Royal was on the Harmony back in April - hardly a luxury cruise in itself, but even the pricing on that had me rethinking the luxury cruise route: fewer people, better amenities, better food, more relaxed atmosphere, *fewer people,* better itineraries, better service, and… (let’s see, what am I forgetting?)… Oh, and best of all, *FEWER PEOPLE.*

YOU are smart. Smarter than I was. After my (last) seven day cruise on Oasis of the seas, costing over 17k for a family of 6, Im determined to never sail with RC again. Inferior food options and quality, never enough space or seating or staff.....rude, obnoxious guests. Never again. No more mega, ultra, super duper sized boats with water slides on them. I have several vacations booked now, through 2025. One with Oceania, two with Celebrity, and one with Viking. I don't like shopping at walmart. I'm done with vacationing on a floating one.

My family booked when reservations were first opened up. My family of four fare (3 adults 1 child 2 cabins) is less than half what they are charging now for the same booking. We would not be going if we had to pay these prices.

@@TVHouseHistorian I REALLY love the FEWER PEOPLE part. And a NO KIDS cruise would be even better! On the Allure, late at night, the pool deck area was INVADED by a couple of dozen loud, raucous teens that spoiled our evening reverie. After awhile, ship security came and busted up that nonsense, but I'd rather not have to deal with that crap.

Well, you haven't seen the high seas yet, & that's from peering over the 7th or 13th deck! Just pick the cheapest fare per night from your closest port. I'd recommend this for all First timer's

There’s plenty of cheaper options, icon of the seas does look like the best ship but something like allure or oasis, is much cheaper and will get you the same enjoyment.

Our last cruise in Feb 2023 was an 11-night "Southeastern Caribbean Island Hopper" on the Rhapsody of the Seas. We enjoyed it immensely! We've been on the Allure twice, and we have decided that we much prefer the smaller ships. We really don't want to be on a floating city with 6000+ other passengers. Just walking to and from our cabin on the Allure seemed to be a challenge. The megaships are just not our cup of tea anymore. Our next cruise may very well be on a much smaller luxury ship like Regent has. We are TIRED of the massive crowds, and these prices are just STUPID.

We booked 2 interior rooms for 4 people last year, April sailing for about $4400. Looked the same thing up last week on the same sailing and it was $16k!!

It's crazy how much the pricing increased. We did the same - booked as soon as we could and paid a high, but acceptable rate, and the same class of room is sooooo much higher now. I think Royal saw the demand and jacked up pricing, but I think too much, but we shall see. Glad we got in when we did as don't think we would book at current prices

It’s not just icon, royals costs on all cruises are way higher than they’ve been in the past. I’m Diamond with RC and have my next 3 sailings booked with Carnival because I can’t justify the pricing. Came in about 2500 for 3 on an oceanview on Mardi Gras, same thing in Icon was 4500, Wonder was around 3300. It just doesn’t make sense when it comes to the budget.

To be fair to them that’s not all RC. The freedom and explorer ships are very good value, I’ve even seen some bargain Odyssey and Harmony cruises. It’s just the latest and greatest ships! No doubt oasis was like this back in 2009

Those older ship are still amazing and modern and not nearly as crowded. You all DONT have to cruise the newest ships ya know. EVERY cruise line charges a ton for the newest ships.

We booked Icon last year on the first day of booking with a group cruise as Crown & Anchor customers. We paid total $3,200 mid ship balcony. The next day it nearly doubled. We were very lucky. JJcruise did a great job booking this for us😊

The 2025-2026 sailings are no cheaper. Because the demand is so high, the fares will be reflected as such and doubly so with it being a new ship. I work in the travel industry and get pretty generous interline discounts with all the major cruiselines and while I can take advantage of it and book a cabin nearly $700 cheaper than booking directly through RC, it still prices out to nearly $7000 for an infinite ocean facing balcony. It's Atlantis pricing at this point

Wow, those prices are outrageous, however the demand is there. I would disagree with your point about DCL, in that I agree their upfront cost is more, however when you then compare the packages on other cruise line (ie soda packages and things like dining options I believe that DCL becomes better value. How many time on RC have you said X or Y are an up charge…….

We are booked on the Feb 17, 2024 sailing - we booked the first day we could. We are a family of 5 and have one of the new family infinite balcony ocean view rooms. Our cost was ~$7,800. Definitely not cheap but for the 4th sailing of new ship, room for 5, new class of room, etc, we thought it was acceptible ... I priced out the same class of room for 2025 and it is well over $11,000 - more than a 40% increase. I think they feel they underpriced it to start and are swinging the pendulum too far the other other way ... be interesting to see what happens

Just got home from Wonder of the Seas. Got an amazing souvenir of a combo Covid + Strep. I LOVED the Wonder, except that I think it's just tooooo big. Too many people. Not only is getting sick practically inevitable, but man, it's a slog to get from an event on say Deck 15 forward to Deck 4 aft. I can't imagine trying to navigate Icon. It's just too big for me. But I'm eager to try Freedom class at some point. That might be more my speed.

We’ve been on many RCI cruises and recently got off of Allure of the Seas (with COVID along with many others - not fun at all). We really enjoy the Voyager and Freedom class ships better than Oasis class. Less people, walking path with a view, access to bow of the ship, and more ocean views throughout the ship. Icon is just too big for us.

Oasis class is many people’s favorite, including ours, (Can’t beat Central Park). It’s not for everyone which is great there are so many different ship). Sorry you caught Covid, it’s everywhere right now on land, so I’m sure it ends up on cruises. The new strain is supposed to be mild like a cold for most, fingers crossed for you.

We were on the infamous Allure COVID Cruise in Dec 2020. Or was it Dec 2021? I can't even remember. Anyway, we spent 5 DAYS on the ship because none of the ports would let us dock - the percentage of passengers with COVID on the ship was too high. They finally took us to Coco Cay on the last day, so we could actually leave the ship and do something. AND, our daughter and son-in-law came down with Covid the day after we disembarked. WORST CRUISE EVER - but at least we had the premium drinks package! 🍹

Royal has gone up $$$ more than any other line I’m finding. We recently priced out Disney Treasure inaugural sailing (Feb 2024) and the price for 3 was similar to Icon we looked at late Aug 2023. Icon in Feb was more than the brand new Disney Treasure! I’m finding if you want to go on a brand new Royal ship, or even lately Oasis class, their prices compare to Disney cruise line. Which is nuts. We have a placeholder with Royal and I’m struggling to find a decently priced sailing on Oasis class. I don’t love the older ships, which seem to be the only ones cheaper.

It is truly insane! But to be honest... The money for the inaugural cruise is becoming more and more worth it since learning that you guys and a lot of other content creators will be on ICON with us. Yeah it’s all well and good having a gigantic ship with 7000 people, but the queues are likely to be humongous and the service impersonal at best. I know it’s not quite as novel, and there isn’t quite as much choice, but smaller ships nearly always offer smaller queues, more attentive staff and a better overall experience.

They don't, and more to the point, they don't care. As long as the $$$$ are coming in nothing else matters. Just make it as glitzy as possible with all the hype and someone else will buy into it, hence why so many people who have cruised before want smaller ships.

Be aware that number is if every cabin is at max occupancy. Cruises rarely ever sail that way. It is more likely to be around 5000 people onboard. It's rare that a cabin that sleeps 4 is actually booked with 4 people. I also was not sure about a megaship either but just got off a full booking on Wonder and it really wasn't crowded at all.

Hey Ben. 7600 passengers plus crew. Wow. Easy 10,000 + on the ship. When tickets went on sale that midnight a balcony was like $4500. Waited til the morning and regretted not booking it at midnight. Was now $7500. For 2 of course. No inside or ocean view left. Plus gotta ad airfare and a night or 2 hotel. That was ridiculous. Inaugural cruises although exciting are not always ready with the shows/menu/excursions etc. So we’ll wait. Thanks for the insight. We just did a ten day on the Oasis 4 ports with taxes port fees and prepaid gratuities for $2300 total for me & hubby. Airfare not needed.

I’m sure we’re going to buy next cruise certificates and probably cruise again on this ship in 2025. You’re right. I must admit. At first I was enamored with the Icon of the Seas. But then I remembered that I wouldn’t use hardly any of it. I’m not going on any of those splash zones, water parks, merry go rounds, etc… so it makes no sense for me to spend that much money on a ship I wouldn’t take full advantage of. Royal better knock it out of the park because people are going to have a much higher expectation with the prices they are paying. I feel like so many people are going to have buyer remorse.

Me and my husband booked Icon of the Seas in December 2022 through a travel agent and we got a great deal to sail in May 2024 for $3,161.00; $1,580.50 per person with a garanty balcony cabin. I'm so excited and glad we booked so far in advance. The prices are insane now. I can't wait to sail on Icon.

I did the Odyssey inaugural and was fun. I really love this icon of the seas. Well be glad to see your guys videos. Won't be able to get on this ship. Man that is some money. And sold out. Didn't do the perfect day but that is a lot of money for some extra slides. When you will enjoy the slides on the ship. Most people I know don't know about hanging around that much people. Even though would make it more expensive should travel to Spain. The Caribbean is amazing but you can get tired of the same experiences.

I booked the Icon of the Seas back on 10/24/2022 for 04/13/2024. I paid $3,718 for two people in a Oceanview balcony room with prepaid gratuities. I just checked for the same room, with prepaid gratuities, on the same dates and it now costs $9,595. It's insane how much it jumped up, glad I booked it during the first openings last year!

Well firstly, after having just watched the Barbie movie, looking at Icon, particularly from above, it definitely looks like Barbieland and I will be looking forward to seeing her onboard! All Royal prices, together with their 'Nickle & Diming', have just ramped up considerably post covid. The prices you show are just utterly mind blowing, but collectively we have done this, so have nobody else to blame!! They are all sold out and all the time people like you & I are willing to pay these prices, Royal will continue to test the boundaries of what they can charge, for cruises, drinks packages & internet. Internet particularly gets me, as they now have Starlink, which is much cheaper for them, but they feel they can charge us more as it's possibly a better experience. Personally, I absolutely wouldn't pay those greedy Icon prices, but I do have a few much better value Royal cruises booked and absolutely loved my 14nts on Wonder. Other cruise lines are the same, but Royal really are on steroids! Wouldn't be so bad, but the service and 'things' you now get are being reduced, but with increased prices, and not forgetting the increased gratuities too, which you never included in your costs?

I went on the Odyssey last year for a Greek isles cruise. The ship is beautiful. It’s very high tech, and has tons to do. I’d gladly sail on her again and wait 4 years for the hype around Icon to die down

WOW. I HAD NO IDEA Royal charged different amounts for Thrill Water Park based on the SHIP THAT BROUGHT YOU THERE! Last year I paid $60 - or it might have been $90 since I didn't reserve it in advance, but it was LESS than $100 - on an older class ship. I will be on an Oasis class ship for the first time next year (I can only do short cruises and the biggest ships usually only do 7+ day sailings but this one has ONE three night sailing) and it it $178 PER PERSON! HIGHWAY ROBBERY! But I wanted to experience an Oasis ship once.. Same place, same length of cruise out of the same port... Same number of days. BONKERS PRICE! Oh, that is reserving the excursion 8 MONTHS IN ADVANCE!

YIKES! Waaaay too rich for my blood! And too many people as well! Years ago I sailed on Serenade of the Seas and I loved it! Not all the fancy stuff the new mega-ships have, but it was great! I also got to sail on the SV Fantome, a gorgeous windjammer cruise ship. Sadly the ship was lost in hurricane and the company went bankrupt years ago. Smaller is better for me!.

All of the prices are inflated right now. Even the older Carnival ships in what is normally the off season where some great deals can be found are a lot more than they really should be.

Booked Icon when it became available and paid $2513.60 for an inside plus cabin. The price is more ridiculous, as are all other RC cruises right now. Many have increased $700-$900 more for an inside cabin since August 31, 2023.

My family is very financially comfortable. I would neverrrr pay these prices. Just did a b2b on the Disney Fantasy and paid less for a balcony than 1 week onboard icon. Never ever would I do that 😂😂

My family booked an ocean view balcony room for 4 people in July 2024 and we somehow found it to be $2,012.25 split evenly between us 4. at the time we booked there was a 30% off deal plus a discount for having a 3rd and 4th passengers so the total for the room would've been $10,090.00 but we only ended up paying $8,049.80. ultimately I think with the right circumstances you could get a good deal on a room, but there's no doubt the prices are insane right now.

I'm thinking about this ship and the prices.Ship looks great but.... First of all the town I live in has a population of 9000. It's not all crammed into a small area 1190ft x 220ft x 20 decks high. Will be interested to see the logistical nightmare of controlling crowds, all their luggage policing etc . I worked for a large natural gas firm and think about safety protocols with large NGL tanks. I will wait a couple of years to see its performance before I decide if it's worth the money

We are booked on the Icon for September 2024. We are traveling with our kids so we booked connecting family infinite balcony cabins. When I booked, the prices were not as high as they are now. Last I checked for our sailing for the same connecting cabins we have on the same sailing is over $25k for a total of 8 people. That’s crazy!!

I'm horrified by the high prices and how expensive the private island is. That's why I prefer mid sized older ships that aren't "hot". I don't want crowds and don't want to spend an arm and a leg.

We booked a Dec 2024 cruise on Icon last year while on Navigator. We booked a family infinite balcony for 5 for a total of about $6700. Of course our two youngest got on a kids sail free promo so that helps. It also included prepaid tips, so we were about $1800 per person and we were booking two years in advance.

Bought an ocean view balcony room for the may 4th 2024 voyage back in October 2022 and only paid $3200 per a double occupancy cabin. I guess I got a great deal it’s on 14th deck also
