I mention this in the video, but again just definely encouraging viewers to keep an open mind about the contents of the estate. I understand the temptation to try to guess what the situation was for the original owner of these items, but since we don't know, it is better to not make any assumptions whatsoever and just be thankful that we get to experience it in our own way. Just given that I am sharing publicly the estate of one person, I want to be extra respectful of that individual and approach this with a lot of gratitude for the pieces and again, no assumptions 🙏💓

Hi Nikki have you already tried "GALL SOAP". It's old thing. Here we have in LIDL brand Vanish gall soap. I've been lucky in old blood stains. I've had block soap and I like it, but there is also liquid one. My soap is other brand. Hopefully you are lucky with those marvelous clothes.

i went to an estate sale like this when i was younger (probably like 11/12) and i was absolutely in love. i always appreciate the people who curate these collections, you can tell how passionate they were about fashion. warms my heart that a lot of the pieces go to people with the same kind of vibe!

Nikki, I so appreciate your thoughtfulness in acknowledging the estate sale owner and their unknown story, as well as questioning the appropriateness of wearing of traditional kimono/yukata. I am having a blast watching your videos and 'getting to know you'. Watching from Victoria, BC I feel like we are thrift/vintage/estate sale/garage sale yet-to-have-met bosom-buddies! Although I do not usually favour designer brands, I was with you in spirit when I found a Helmut Lang top at the Sally Ann while taking the edge off after work on Friday. Looking forward your styling session of these fab estate sale finds. You, and your content, are much appreciated!

Aw I appreciate that 🙏🥰 it feels weird to sort of capitalize on estate sales not knowing the situation, right? but at the same time I can't help but admire the collection and be excited about it. I recently went through the process of selling my mom's estate and it was difficult but cathartic for my family; for me it felt good when people were just generally sensitive and admired some of the items, while any criticism carried an extra sting. Anyway, I am glad you understand and appreciate the beauty of this estate too! Thanks for being here! 💓

AND... here's to thrifting in the DC burbs! I see stuff like this all the time. I also see crappy things, and sometimes the shoe section smells like someone left a stool sample in a pair (2nd Ave - Columbia, MD) but you hit a gold mine here! I would have had a shopping cart and planted myself in the purse room. Seriously, I wouldn't have left the purse room. I would have hoarded those purses. If you get a chance, check out "Red White and Blue" in Laurel MD, but not on the weekends. Every day they have sales. Some weeks are nothing special, and some weeks are crazy. The estate sale is where you'll find the best items (OBVIOUSLY!!!). OK, so... my 2 favorite items that you bought are the Ralph Lauren sweatpants and then that flower t-shirt. You certainly will sell whatever you put on Poshmark. Good job!!! I'll have to live vicariously thru your videos for the time being. @NikkiTerryStyle3 жыл бұрын
Yeah some of it I will resell to help support the channel and make sure stuff gets a good home! I sell on Poshmark & Depop right now, sometimes eBay. I inquired with TRR and now they are pushing REAL hard for me to consign with them 😆 but their commissions are the highest and they give you no control over pricing. I'd probably go that route only if I regularly had large amounts of designer inventory to unload. I might try eBay for a couple of these instead.

I only got those 2 bags 😬 I wish I had snagged a few more knowing that everything ended up being only about $6 each! The funniest thing is a couple weeks later I went to a local thrift store and saw some of these bags. I was fairly certain they were the same bags at the time, but not totally sure until I edited the footage later. I didn't even realize I thrifted that neon green and pink purse you can see me pass over in the footage and I had no idea until editing 😂 so I got a third bag from the estate sale, from the thrift store. 🤷♀️😆

@@NikkiTerryStyle That is so funny about the purse at the thrift. Also, cultural appropriation...I'd love to discuss when you have the time (DM on IG). I'd love to hear why you decided not to wear haori kimono. I've been reading on the subject and would love to hear your thoughts.
@NikkiTerryStyle3 жыл бұрын
Yeah! I think it's a tricky but worthwhile thing to navigate, right? And hopefully one of those concepts that will seem second nature in the future. For me, I'll share briefly here that I felt the very traditional design made it clearly a cultural garment and not meant to be worn as western fashion. I love the idea of blending cultures and showing appreciation for them, but it would feel more respectful to only wear this in context. For example, in college I minored in Japanese studies & language & participated in related clubs and cultural events where something like this could be appropriate for me to wear. I feel less strongly though about modern robes that may have a slight nod to the kimono style but vary in patterns and other features, like the silk robe with the grapevine on it, but I could be wrong about that too!

No kidding, this estate sale is likely to be the extent of my future wardrobe in regards to quantity. I have VARIOUS vintage designers and classic designer pieces and generally have a massive quantity. I have enough clothing to the extent that I am considering getting a storage unit and converting that into a "closet away from home" so to speak. I already use an entire bedroom as a closet and make use of EVERY square foot of the room with five FULL garment racks of majority thrifted clothing which holds six large/x large containers filled with clothing as well underneath, 7 tall bookcases of which 6 are used to hold shoes/stuffed with shoes and one case is stuffed with handbags/totes, a small lingerie dresser, a mini dresser used as a standing jewelry box so to speak (with 4 other jewelry boxes stacked on top) and the actual closet of the room is stuffed with evening wear clothing/dresses, evening wear shoes, and evening wear handbags...and this is THE MAIN closet, being that I have two other closets in the house as well of which one walk-in closet is my fall/winter closet where I house my vintage/appealing fall/winter coats/jackets and fall/winter fashion boots/snow boots and other fall/winter accessories like scarves, hats, gloves and larger totes/suitcases and garment bags. The final closet/space is a small closet my husband had built for me within the storage section of the house which I hang excess or "switching out" items and I have a garment rack in that space too. YES...I LOVE looking at this video and immediately felt that this amount of clothing which indeed, does accumulate over the years, is my future, lol. But admittedly, IT'S SO MUCH FUN having such a massive choice of clothing to select from and I HAVE made use of a lot of my wardrobe which is the point of having it, and still have more to debut. Though it may seem overwhelming for some to behold, personally, it actually isn't being that everything is organized and color coordinated like a boutique. I LOVE IT.
@NikkiTerryStyle3 жыл бұрын
Wow! Yes, it sounds like you can "shop" in your own closets, how fun! Do you plan your outfits ahead of time or browse daily?
@lkofie66703 жыл бұрын
@@NikkiTerryStyle Oh yes...before my place of employment went remote, I would need to plan my outfit at least a night before. I couldn't imagine digging through all these items the morning of...I would need to wake up earlier than necessary or I'd risk running late if I did. Would some lovely person explain what an estate sale is please? I'm not American and have always wondered how you find out about them and why you have them... thankyou x
@NikkiTerryStyle3 жыл бұрын
Hi Beth 👋 in America, the most common reason for an estate sale is because the person has died. Their family will sell items that they do not want to keep. There are professional companies that buy everything and then sell it to the public, or the company will manage the public sale and share the money with the family. They advertise the sale to the public online. Another reason for an estate sale is because the person wants to sell a lot of things for any reason. Usually because they want to move in to a smaller house when they are older or retired from work, and they want to have less stuff or they need the money. I hope this helps!
@bethlitaunieks3823 жыл бұрын

Haha! Well you're not going to believe this, but I did buy that bag a couple weeks later at a nearby thrift store! It is still new with tags, so I'm sure it must be the same one. However, I didnt realize it until recently when I started editing the footage for this video and spotted the bag I had passed over! 😅 Anyway, I am actually looking for a different style of neon purse at the moment so I would be happy to sell this one to you. You can message me on Instagram or email me NikkiTerryStyle @ gmail. Or follow me on Poshmark, I just don't have it listed yet. 😉
