No comparison as one was 27 meters and the other 47 meters height

Hi there! That's a good point. 👍 However, I started the flight from the 15th floor. In this case, zero means the 15th floor. Also, on the way back home they were at the same height and the External Antenna got the signal from the drone later than the Built-in Antenna.

For it to really be a reliable comparison, the two drones must fly at the same height, regardless of whether the origin is on the 15th floor. That difference of 20 meters influences the signal a lot. I tell you from experience. Best regards 👋

Without question. All must be the same. 20 meters is enough to prevent flight.

Why would the rc tell you to "adjust antennas" when it was designed for internal antenna?

Hi Alex thanks for your amazing videos its actually got me back into the drone fun again and doing the mods. Im just wondering if you know on the Smart RC after the antenna mod , if the controller powers up and the external antenna are not connected will it harm the smart controller as no antennas connected?

To get me some insights, my definition of an external antenna is an antenna that can be mounted outside or outdoors (example a rooftop antenna, ground mounted) with cables then plugging it to a device. Is that what you did?

A lot of effort went into installing those huge external antennas and only 2 tenths of a mile gained 🥴 But I really enjoyed watching both the antenna installation and your range test. 👍 Maybe run some tests with different antenna types might give you some better results?? I'd hardly call that a gain. External antennas lost video way earlier. Not much point in blindly flying a drone that's a few miles away.

again, it is kind of a pointless mod since you cannot change the firmware to tune to a higher gain antenna.

So, basically, a downgrade. DJI probably matched the antennas, transmit power, and frequencies to get the most out of the hardware and the external antennas are probably messing that up. Personally, I've never been bothered by the range on my Mini 3. I'm able to fly way further than I should, and definitely way further than I feel comfortable.

Yeah... no. This is a wrong comparison. Different flight heights are an obvious one, the second is, who on the planet Earth flies so far only 40 meters up in the air? Fly up to 120 meters and your distance will reach 4-5 kilometers. Go up 300 meters and you will probably manage 8-10 kilometers. But there is no point in going so far. Choose a close massive object and fly behind it. Measure the actual signal strength on the controller channel screen. Also, I watched your previous video about upgrading the RC controller. You upgraded the antennas on the controller, nice job. But what about the antennas on the drone?

then you bought cheap antennas, i bought alfa apa-m25 and got full rc signal at 7,3km range on fcc mode but had to return because of battery.

So this guy needs to tell the truth, before other people mangle their controllers. I tested these external antennas. The range DECREASED by at least 50%. The controller is not calibrated for these antennas. Don't do it. You will waste a lot of time and be very disappointed.
