Eric, I realize you guys are way ahead of this video and probably already know this but for anyone who may not here it is. Water depth plus the distance from your anchor roller to the water equals total number used to calculate your scope. As in this video you indicate 15ft of water and I am guessing 4 to 5 ft of bow height indicates a three to one scope (60/20=3). Always enjoy your videos. Hoping there will be future videos of other adventures when this trip is complete.
@SchoandJo
@SchoandJo Жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yes, a good point to call out that it's the total distance. That was the 15 feet in this video (depth + bow), so we were at a higher scope than 3:1. Cheers!

I lived on Georgian Bay all my life. The only locks were on the Trent system and I felt like a big boat in my 40'. Now I live by the St Lawrence. Going in one of those huge shipping locks make you feel like a flea on a dog. That's what I see in those big locks you are in. As for coming out of that lock and shooting the rapids with the limited power and one screw shows what experience you have learned on boat handling in your trip. But I'm sure you were happy Jen had your laundry done and spare shorts were on hand. Must have been a thrill ride lol. Plus you've recognized many dangers before you would have got got in trouble. I've watched other loop videos, but you are still my favorites. The others are real nice people but you guys have managed to make it a personal interest trip and have watched you guys from the beginning.

Re: River Conditions-- I did The Mississippi by canoe during flood, and ended up doing a lot of back paddle to negotiate boiling water, whirlpools, and tree trunks/maybe gators. I ended up on the wrong (westerly) side of Tower Rock above Cape Girardeau, Missouri, too.

Was this Dec. 2022? We did the Miss/TB Jan. 2022. We purchased our boat n Scottsboro AL. River was flooded. Huge logs everywhere especially the closer we got to Demopolis where we were stuck for 8 days waiting for river to recede. Love Ollie.😊

@@SchoandJo curious, if you could choose a different vessel today-would you want a twin screw? Anything you’d change from choosing Pivot?
@SchoandJo
@SchoandJo Жыл бұрын
If we were in our same shoes, I think we'd make the same decision, but if we were doing the Loop again we'd choose a different one. Not sure about twin screws, that wouldn't be a deal breaker to us. Heres an article we wrote about choosing a great loop boat (knowing what we know now) if you haven't seen it yet! schoandjo.com/great-loop-boats/@@mattgreven7615

Be "sure" to hook up with Sure Marine in Seattle if you head to Alaska. I have had a Webasto furnace on my MT '40 since the early '90s. It keeps the boat warm well down into the teens and is darn near foolproof when used often. It's cost me less than $40 per year to maintain.

Are you powering your Instapot with a generator or are you using an inverter to pull from batteries?
@SchoandJo
@SchoandJo Жыл бұрын
Our instapot typically runs off our battery bank, we have 600 ah of LIP04 batteries and a 3000W inverter. However, in these Tenn-Tom videos, we have been running it off our generator because we weren't getting much solar power, so it helped keep our batteries a bit more topped up. Cheers!

The rivers definitely get challenging when they are in flood conditions. I hate all the crud that comes out of all the tributary streams when they are full of water. I was thinking that I know one tool I'm gonna add to my boat tool kit if I ever run the rivers again after watching that bollard that kept getting stuck, I'm gonna carry a mid sized sledge hammer aboard as part of my boat tools should I ever experience a bollard like that one. In all the years I boated the Ohio, I never did have that happen with a lock bollard, but I've heard plenty of stories from others who did run across stuck bollards. Give that thing a few good whacks with a sledge hammer should do the trick. Maybe carry a few cans of White Grease to spray on the rails the bollard slides on too. WD 40 or Liquid Wrench might work as well.

haha that would be a fun tool to use, just smacking the bollards 😂

Hi Anthony, I'm sorry you are having a poor experience with ads. I'll just leave it at three things. First off, Google places the ads, determines which ads, and for how long to show them - not us. Secondly, we rely on ad revenue to do this in the first place, so without it, you wouldn't have anything to watch! Thirdly, if you would like to have no ads, you can purchase KZbin Premium, and then there are none. Cheers!

@@SchoandJo The bigger the channel, the greater the adds. There are ways to control add breaks. @$250/year for add free KZbin is ridiculous. I'm just venting because the breaks kill the vibe of your incredible videos. This is constructive criticism, nothing changes my love for your channel. 🛥️
