Bro, I watched this video a month ago, ended up screen recording his version of Jesus loves Me, and have been listening to it on replay for a month now, I think it's one of my favourite pieces I've heard in a LOOONG TIME. So absolutely insane! Sounds was so good in this recording too 🙏🏽

He's a learner; he doesn't mind where the knowledge is coming from cos he's that humble to learn from anyone even if he's better than them or not, my God 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺... Thank you so much Mr Art Brown for being so humble even with the great grace you've got 🙏🙌❤️

Schedule is soooo important. And yes practice a few things not everything. In the words of Bruce Lee, "I don't fear the man who practices 1000 punches one time, I fear the man who practices one punch 1000 times." It's also interesting to hear how he sticks to one key at a time...all 12 keys. Ahh! I knew it, who he's listened to, Bill Evans, George Shearing, Oscar Peterson, and Oakwood Choir; and yes I record myself too. Lollygagging??? I took 40 plus years off the piano. Thanks for the post. May God continue to bless you.

Wow. so happy I found this channel. So many things to ponder and try. I’m a long time jazz player and have always loved gospel music. Now I find myself playing in church and feel pretty lost in terms of how to work and practice but it’s okay. This is all very helpful. Thank you both very much.

What Art said about how he practices reminds me of a similar thing Bill Evans (know for his great harmonic depth) said about practice; when asked why he had such great touch and harmony, he said, " I practice the minimum "... In other words, he took a small idea and practice that deeply... I've also seen him say (in a video interview with his brother), it's better to practice 'one' tune for 24 hours than it is to practice 24 tunes in an hour - making the point that Art is repeating here... less is more.... Easier said than done though 🙂. Anyway, that tune Art played was INSANE!

An Anointed MASTER!!! His spirit is so humble! Reminds me of my Dad playing, but as Shawn said, I couldn't here the voicing, because it was mind blowing. Dad (1960s-1980s) wouldn't stop & show me how to play because he said, baby, this isn't the way we play it in Church (I was 10yrs old), but have never been able to erase his voicing/voiced chords from my desire play. Thanks for taking me back!

Loved every second of his perf of 'Jesus Loves Me'. He has 'big ears' which means he is unrestrained by normal harmonic restraints and can apply anything in his imagination that will work. Just started watching your vids and love the channel! I just saw your vid on ear training and I saw the chart in the vid. Is there any way I can get access to that chart? Is it explained in an older video? I think studying it would help solidify patterns so i can better hear chords coming. It'd be dope to practice with that chart and hear the voicings move from one section to another but also see it. Again, thanks for the vids!

@@SeanWilsonPiano By the way, I've listened to this clip easily four/five times since my last post. A lot of what Art is saying is SOOOO true. As a seasoned musician (bass) picking up on the original gift (piano) still hitting walls, practicing that one thing, (Less is more...a la Miles Davis) taking a break (40 years? Never again! LOL) but the realization is this is not a sprint/dash but a marathon. Like life, there are hills and valleys or in some cases mountains and canyons. Thank you again.
