Bless you Shae, you’re so lovely. It’s so good to see someone who obviously loves their horses more than anything. I love that you said you won’t sit on your foals until they’re 4 years old. Too many horses are ridden far too young and develop arthritis, dsld, spine issues etc completely unnecessarily. I’m gutted that Jr has broken Oliver to ride and drive at the tender age of 2, it honestly broke my heart. 💔

Shae you are so blessed to have Kyle. He's strong and such a good helper in whatever needs to be done. The winter weather in this video was just the beginning for those here in Missouri. Before all this was over our wind chill factors were -30* with the actual temperatures as low as -15* for a couple or three nights. I love the way you guys play with your dog and Penelope. I love to watch all your animals and how you interact with all of them. I also think it's absolute precious the way Kyle picked Penelope up and carried her to the house and how she gave him a good talking to on their way back. I just love you and all your animals family.

A big THANK YOU to Shae! Late last spring I contacted her about starting a KZbin for my DOG TRAINING business near Toledo Ohio. She was so gracious and honest about her experience. Very encouraging for me in my 60's! Now 6 months into it and I have learned a lot! Since then, we have gotten a CHINCOTEAGUE Pony colt from the island of Chincoteague Va. I have added a few videos of his progress and training to my channel as well. I hope some of you will enjoy watching his progress! Free Spirit Equestrian has been an inspiration!

My thought is about "herd mentality" and horses being prey animals. Belle and Ezzy could be stressed now that all the other horses are in the barn. They may be fine as far as the cold goes but it's also stress to be away from their herd mates (in this case Bagheera and Ariel).

I know you said that you like to do most everything yourself because you like to control the safety and care issues.... While that is all obviously true; in addition, however, I am quite certain that you feel like me, in that all of the sweet souls in your care are your babies and caring for them is a pleasure. The time we spend nurturing each of them, is building our bond. Through our actions and vocalizations they connect to the love we have for them. I know, for myself, that the ickiest jobs are still my honor to handle; in my mind, each day is a celebration. It goes back to the saying "When you're doing what you love, you are never really working." I respect so much the passion that you have for each member of the herd along with Penelope, Koa and, of course, Kyle ❣️ Take good care of each other, stay warm and toasty, and enjoy the beauty of the snow ~

Where do you get the water during sub temps? I hated hauling buckets from the house to the barn, and breaking water 2 to 3x day. And the muck goes to hard rock that is so hard on horses feet.... Then it all melts and is almost knee deep for days and weeks. Have you ever walked out of your boots cuz they got stuck so deep in the mud? I've had to walk one foot barefooted from barn to house more than once.... Or you get stuck and fall over. You have a really nice barn... Mine is a six stall pony barn.... Not sure what my daddy was thinking back in early 1960s. Started out with Shetlands....quickly grew to TWH and later in my 30s, paint Morgan/Appaloosa. We just got 8 inches snow here in East TN... My last baby had to leave us suddenly at age of 29 back in Feb 2022. Whenever it is rainy, cold, or crazy with fireworks, I get PTSD, still worrying about her. I look out to pasture and tell all my babies I am glad they are warm and dry in their resting places.

I had mud here like you have & couldn't stand it. The constant trying to deal with muddy legs, thrush, scratches..Yuck. Come spring dug all the mud & black dirt out, put down a stone base & 6+ inches of sand. Religiously pick up manure... No more mud. While frostbite isn't common in horses, if you live in an area where your horses could be exposed to frigid temperatures for long stretches of time-especially if there's rain, ice, or snow-keep an eye out for the signs of frostbite. Healthy horses handle frigid temperatures better than we do, but their extremities still are vulnerable to frostbite. The good news about frostbite in horses is that you’ll rarely see it. But occasionally you’ll notice the telltale signs that a horse has spent too much time in the frigid cold, maybe as a foal: his ear tips might be gone, or maybe even part of his tail. My Morgan was left out in frigid weather too long and lost just a small part of the tip of his ear. The former owner told me this when I purchased him. Horses and esp babies need protection from freezing temps, rain and wind chill. They handle it better than humans but they still feel it for sure.

We already have the polar vortex here in Alberta and it’s nothing short of nasty, I hope Belle and baby stay warm. We reached -40c here. 🥶🇨🇦❤️

Looks like Miss Penelope enjoys new experiences to the point she puts up quite the protest when you guys say no...She’s got such an adorable personality, lol!!!... Your dog totally gets into winter weather and does the funniest things in all his excitement-what a Character, heheee!!! Your equines looked a bit confused at first-(especially Ezzie when you took Lady B and Ariel in-that was Cute)...But once you got them inside, they hunkered down and got comfy almost right away...Ya gotta love a barn when the animals are settling in-there’s no feeling quite as nice!!! Well...Here we’re it through the storm and doing all right... Last night hubby and I cozied up and read some then had the most hilarious Scrabble tournament of sorts either of us has ever had, lol...Today I’m doing some artwork and he’s kicking back taking it easy... Tomorrow after the storm passes through, we break out the snow blower and hot chocolate-might do a little sledding out back later, if the wind calms down... When life gives you lemons-make lemonade, lol!!! Take Care Everyone. God Bless, 😇
