Better late than never, YOU WON'T REGRET IT! I wish I could watch it for the first time again, it's so so good! I'm literally obsessed with Mel, I don't think I've ever been this much in love with a cartoon character before as I am now with Mel. Ugh.

This either shows that she is unconcerned with the possibility of ruining her dress and repair cost due to her vast wealth, OR that she has complete control of herself and her immediate environment, to the point that dirtying her dress isn't even a concern. A display of confidence and mastery of self. It's something to think about!

I really love the detail of her eyeshadow being purple because while she wears Piltover-esc colours (white and gold) she still has the touch of purple to tie to her royal blood like you said. She knows she's more than the others on the council but she's subtle about it, so while her design screams wealth and power, the details whisper the truth of that power

Mel is a really interesting character to me, because the show keeps her motivations from the audience until nearly the end of the story, which generally means the secret agenda is something nefarious. A ton of viewers assume she'll be a character like Littlefinger, scheming and clawing for power. And she certainly IS manipulative, but her consolidation of power is in her eyes for the genuine betterment of society. Mel is a really cool subversion of a machiavellian chessmaster character, because she doesn't really have any particular goal other than cultivating as many options as possible to deal with future emergencies. She and Heimerdinger are complicit in the immorality of the system they preside over, but are otherwise good people. Arcane does a fantastic job of showing the limits of everyone's good intentions.

Great analysis, the connection of the purple eyeshadow to the purple of her youth is a really astute observation! One correction though, Mel isn't royalty but noxian nobility.

Wait, I thought her mom was the Queen/Empress? Ambessa talks about giving her daughter a throne, giving her daughter the world “if [she’s] strong enough to take it.” They talk about imposing a puppet ruler over the conquered lands like they’re the ones in charge.

@@joshwithaz Yeah, a lot of videos exposed white people's mentality regarding Mel. White girls find her intimidating for sure and white men don't like women who are powerful - especially if they're black.
