Every Channel 5 ident that aired on Tuesday 9th April 2002

These were brilliant idents, probably also the last set of idents introduced to a mainstream UK channel before 'attack of the people idents' which had already started to take full force and killed off the era of pretty CGI idents. Even the 10-note jingle was really catchy and memorable. These refreshed and modernised C5 for the 2000's and could credibly have been used for a good few years. A shame they only lasted 6 months or so before the silly rebrand to five.

I actually preferred the Five name over Channel 5, TBH.

@@MateusHonrado But just calling it '5' was always there. Almost all continuity announcements did that. Note how here it's only when the silent idents are played out and also into the news that the CA actually says 'Channel 5'. The daytime ident set from 1997 even had 'five' spelled out in letters too if that's your bag. 'Channel 5 was a name, five is a brand' was just some meaningless marketing speak to try and justify their rebrand, which ultimately didn't lead them anywhere except back to where they started. But since ditching the original numeral 5 branding and the candy bars I think it's pretty well arguable that they've never come up with anything as strong ever since.

@@chriswathen9612 I disagree as I think Richard Desmond's reason for the channel reverting back to Channel 5 in 2011 after buying it from RTL Group the year prior was more meaningless than that. The reason why I prefer the channel's 2002-11 name is because it stood out for me and it felt more in line with the channel itself.

@@MateusHonrado Richard Desmond's purchase was some 8 years later, and actually it was only then that C5 started actually being regularly namechecked as 'Channel 5' because of the need to distance from the 'Five' era. From 1997-2002 C5 seemed to do just fine having a formal name of 'Channel 5' but usually just being referred to as '5'. Kind of like Channel 4 has for it's entire existence. Instead C5 ditched a brand they'd spent 5 and a half years building up (the candy stripes were part of it too - remember they were used as the break bumper even without the numeral logo being there) in favour of a nothing brand that was just the word 'five' typed out and on screen presentation was drab nondescript people idents just because that's what was fashionable at the time. They jumped on that bandwagon rather than have the confidence to develop the brand they already had (which again, C4 did - same basic logo for over 40 years now). If you disagree and thought the rebrand in 2002 was a good idea well executed more power to you, but I don't exactly see people queuing up to watch compilations of late 2002 'five' idents.

@@chriswathen9612 Yes but still, I think Five stood out more than Channel 5 as like I said, I'm more used to that name.

it was the queen mother's funeral
