Not necessarily. Where I work it's common for people to just sit there and use it as "down time" to chill rather than call IT. If the problem doesn't fix itself within an hour they'll call but not before.

I wonder how many CEO's are oblivious to how management really acts at work. They rarely help when it gets hectic and they think the higher they get, the less they do. Unfortunately, a good manager is hard to find and it's also the main reason why someone will choose to leave. When I was a manager, I tried to be the type of manager I needed when I wasn't one.

This is something that I have noticed in my own career. I was a manager of several businesses, including fast food, exotic pet shops, and at an international airport. Towards the end of my career, I began to see more and more managers who didn’t think they had to work. When in a bind, I would ask other managers on site to help and was either turned down or ignored entirely. This was counter to everything I had always learned about managing. It was baffling. As the manager, you need to jump in when needed. Period. I also noticed the slow death of the assistant manager. Many places just don’t do this anymore. They instead install “team leads,” who are supposed to act like managers but without the salary and the increased paycheck. As a result, they aren’t getting that invaluable training that used to be part and parcel of having the responsibilities of an assistant manager. I think some of the problem lies within that particular bit of workplace structure, especially in the food industry.

@angelsinger4574 I completely agree with you. I had to fight for my promotion to make only 50 cents more than people walking into the door to the job. That was after me coming with a 2-page list of how all the changes I made that made a difference in the workplace and my higher-up speaking with my team. I still have a lot of people from my team who still reach out to me. When I had left, I offered to write their recommendation letters. I was proud. My team never saw me not moving. If I asked a request from my team, I'd immediately tell them what I was doing as well so they knew where I'd be and that I was working with them. I really cared about them. I used to bring frozen meals and sandwich supplies so they can make food since we had someone stealing lunches and it could be a tight payday, I brought in cases of water with my own money because my company charged $1.50 for water in the vending machine yet we work in a warehouse with no air conditioning in Texas, and I even brought Valentine's gifts, Christmas gifts, and birthday gifts. It made me feel good to be in a role where it wasn't about who I could control but who I could lead to success. I mean I even trained my boss. To this day, I'd love to get back into a position like that. We need people who want to come to work. It's not to say you'll never have a hard day, but at least you have someone who's got your back. Sorry for the paragraph. I'm passionate about it.

In any business where there is a layer of abstraction between the shot callers and the coalface you get problems. If you judge worker performance by targets and metrics rather than actually being on the floor and knowing what the job entails you will never actually know how your business operates. I've worked at locations where the person in charge of the building didn't care to know what was going on, with two layers of managers between them and workers, never mind the director or a chief. Should anyone senior openly come on site they are heavily handled by anyone below them.

It's called customer service. It's the only thing that America sells, so people need to get it right. It is inappropriate to bring your home problems to work. You leave that at the door the minute you walk in. Foul language is not appropriate, nor is harassment of any kind. It is one thing to talk about the inner workings of a company, it is another entirely to just complain. If you don't like your job, quit. It used to be that most people quit their jobs because of their bosses. Now, people quit their jobs because they are entitled and don't want to put in any effort. Good customer service and maintaining a business demeanor is the BARE MINIMUM skill someone should come to work with. Just because you're frustrated does not mean you have aright to take it out on a guest/customer. You're getting paid to do the exact opposite. If you don't like it, find a job that is not customer-facing. There are many out there. I've had my fair share of bad bosses, worked for a terrible company and had insane Karens and customers who think it's okay to secually harass me because I'm female. But that does not mean I perform my duties or hold myself to less of a standard because of that. It's called professionalism.

I don’t agree with how he handled that either. I used to work as a bikini barista. And we as the girls were more than allowed to wear more covered tops and shorts if we felt more comfortable with that. (kind of like hooters uniforms) Granted it was still expected of us to look “sexy” because that was part of the job and we knew that when we signed up for it. But they still couldn’t tell us we had to wear a certain type of top that showed a certain amount of skin. However I will also say, if when being hired she was told that the dress code was expecting you to wear a bikini top then that’s a different story. But it dosnt sound like that was the case considering they have t shirts for them to wear and she still looked the part for the job in my opinion. I don’t think any guy walked in there and complained at what they were looking at 😂 If we’re talking about the same person. I thought were talking about the bikini restaurant. If we’re talking about the hooter guy he was a jerk and creep too.

So she isn't feeling the job, it isn't for her, so she told him the truth of what she felt because that is what she asked and she said she is looking for another job. So he fired her for looking for another job but she still showed up there to work in the meantime. They want a 2 weeks notice for you to quit but will be glad to fire you immediately if you still work while looking for a better suited position for you.

@@afafaakaka562 Honestly even with two minutes of logical thought you don't need to be trained behind the counter to understand how "the customer is always right" will sink your business fast. The driver, whose job it is to drive and know the layout of a city and traffic at given times of the day is obviously going to be more trustworthy on the matter than a customer trying to get a freebie. It's also not a wild concept to understand that gas isn't free and a detour will cost money to the company, a cost that isn't recuperated by the initial fare that was billed. And the initial call was passed due to the driver already being late on his schedule. Additional detours mean additional time lost, which in turn means the next customer will be less satisfied, and you don't sacrifice the rightful comfort promised to a customer for the out of order demands of another. If anything, those are some of the simplest things to realize for a person that is supposed to be very financially involved with the company.

I’ve always hated that saying, and I feel like anyone who believes that has NEVER worked with customers before. When I was the manager of a restaurant I would always say “the customer is never right” since 90 times out of 100 that there was an issue it would be a misunderstanding on the customer’s part.. which isn’t a big deal most of the time and we’d fix it but sometimes we’d have a Karen and my staff always knew that I’d have their back. We’d be alright without that customer, but if you always side with customer then you’re not going to have staff left if you’re not supporting then effectively… and it’s a little difficult to run a restaurant without staff, or even demoralized staff since staff who like their job and care about it pretty much run themselves.

There were definitely some employees who took it too far with their behavior, but a lot of these CEOs are so disconnected and delusional. These jobs are long hours, hard work, and pay terribly, but they act like something is wrong with the employee when they aren’t happy and positive 100% of the time. Some people are introverts and really don’t love being around people, but they have to in order to survive, like the guy in the candle store. Others are just trying to survive and do not have to love the job while still being respectful to customers. The CEO’s are so quick to fire and judge, but when people (like the Johnny Rocket’s guy) work their ass off, are super humble, and have it rough, they give them the bare minimum back. It does not phase the CEOs because they are in their cushy chair behind their desk all day with millions of dollars in their pockets, while their employees barely get a scrap.

Everyone is so patient with Brad at 16:37, and having my own unique struggles with ADHD felt so nice to see that patience. My main issue is if I don't have anything to do, anxiety will join the fray, and I feel like I'm stealing as I'm bored at the same time. I feel that with a bikini one seems kind of weird because if she wasn't told that she had to wear a bikini as uniform then I get that but I think she got fired because she was on the in and out. She basically said to him that she was not planning on staying at that restaurant for a long time and that she's searching for a different job. She was basically telling him if she got a better job than being a bartender then she would quit and not return back to that restaurant which I think you should never tell someone that you're going to quit even if they are a new person. This kind of thing makes you a target because if you have any before anything like that with that person they will tell management that you are planning on quitting and management will try to find a reason to fire you.

Yes and no. Had she signed a contract that stated she was going to wear a particular uniform then it is reasonable to expect the employee to do so. That being said, I really don't feel that businesses where people are forced to exploit themselves for money should exist because then that can create a situation where someone has to work their and is forced to exploit themselves because it happens to be the only job around or the only one where they can get child care with their schedule or something along those lines.

That’s not always the case. Most corporate leaders don’t see or hear that. Granted, it’s almost always a management issue, but not necessarily the executives. A lot of these are the store managers being managers and not leaders. A lot see issues as as blemishes to the record, rather than a opportunity to improve I’ve worked very difficult jobs for minimum wage that had good managers/leaders and honestly it was better than easier, higher paying jobs with bad managers. Work culture, clear expectations, and good training make a huge difference.

But most of the time they are dealing with a lot more than you think. They are also liable for your mistakes. So if you work on an assembly line for cars and you or your facility have made a lot of defective cars; you aren’t taken to court, the CEO is. Plus that “millions” isn’t liquid assets, it’s company stock. Most dont make the majority of their money from salaries. There is a lot of theoretical and philosophical reasoning behind it, and I don’t think it should be that skewed, but when nobody understands what the people at the top actually do (even just the general job for any CEO), then it’s pointless debating it. Nobody understands my current job if they haven’t worked it, yet it’s rare I don’t put in at least 50hrs/week if not 60 (I’m salaried, so I technically lose money to get my job done) You can be angry, but at least have an educated opinion on how your leadership is failing. I know where mine fail and it pushes me even harder to get to that level.

You should look up Monday Morning Leadership. High level overview of leadership philosophy. Even if the CEO is doing it perfectly, they have to rely on their direct reports to give accurate updates. Some, or maybe even most, CEOs don’t care and think they can slack off, but good ones usually have to work 70-80hrs a week. The ones on here are generally trying to fix issues which is already a statement to everyone else that the culture needs to change.
