Mindiej93 yeah they do. Audi have history in 5cyl turbos. The most famous being the Porsche engineered 5pot in the S1 and S1 E2 Quattro group B cars.

The haldex system in these only drives the rear wheels via an electronically controlled coupling when it senses a loss of traction at the front wheels. Kill the electronics and it reverts to full time front wheel drive. There's no way to do a burnout with only the rear wheels as the front wheels are always driven, and it obviously doesn't have enough power to do a 4 wheel burnout, hence disabling the system and doing a FWD burnout.

Might have to do with the fact it's a totally different type of awd config. These east west awd cars are fwd biased and send torque to the rears as needed but I think they never send more than 50% to the rear. I thought the gtr was a rwd biased setup that send torque to the front wheels but runs a much more rwd biased setup. I had a mazda 6 mps that was awd and the transfer case and electronic diff would make the car fwd under low speed conditions for parking and if the handbrake was engaged. This is my understanding anyway without looking up the awd systems specifically

As far as I know, these do not have a centre diff so there is no set torque/power split as such. They are a FWD with a coupling going to a prop shaft and rear diff to achieve AWD. Many other cars (e.g. most compact SUVs) use the same setup because it has advantages in packaging and cost over a 'proper' AWD setup with a centre diff (e.g. Subaru, Evos, bigger Audis with 'full time Quattro'). If the coupling is unlocked, 100% of the power goes to the front and 0% goes to the rear as it is physically disconnected. If the coupling is fully locked, up to 100% of the power can go to either front or rear, depending on traction. I.e. if the front wheels were on ice and the rears on grippy tarmac, near 100% of the power would be put to the ground through the rear. If the rear was on ice and the front on tarmac, near 100% of power would be put down by the front. The electronics decide how 'locked' the coupling should be based on wheel speeds. There may also be some electronic governance to limit torque/power to the rear by not fully engaging the coupling because the rear drivetrain isn't built strong enough to handle 100% of the power. Obviously it can't be locked up 100% all the time anyway because the front and rear wheels need to turn at different speeds when cornering. Leaving it fully unlocked (i.e. FWD) improves fuel economy so the coupling only engages when there is a loss of traction.

I think he switches once in 4th gear, this way he doesn’t incur another gear change before the line,....whilst DSG is quick shifting probably buys him a bees dick in time , but a lower time is a lower time. I’m going to try this next time I go and compare doing this and not going it!

The DSG in 4th auto shifts at a lower RPM, slowing times by 0.x whatever. By switching to manual in 4th, you can bang against the redline instead of shifting to 5th and losing that precious time.

Check out Malaka motorsports run their RS3 daily most every weekend as well. No gearbox failure after one and half years. Only clutch failed recently. All documented and it is a 9.4 second car. Oh and factory engine, with only boltons

Arron Johnston lets see now... 2.5L Audi vs 4L Barra .... which one of these engines do you reckon has the monster 2000rpm torque ? Which one of these engines has great pre spool throttle response ? Which one of these engines is great to drive in pre spool driving in typicsl day to day driving ? Hint, it is all about displacement and bore to stroke ratio. FG XR6T owner here, I once totally blew a RS3 off @ the lights, and he was revving - I knew the Audi owner was pissed the way he shot past after I got to 60kmh.

The flywheel power and wheel power are different. Itl be 600 at the crank and 450 at the wheels. All wheel drive cars lose between 20-25 of the power from flyweel to wheels because of the friction. All cars lose power in the same way regardless of the drive system.
