Can't believe it, I bought one of these for here in the states. We have been using it to light my house while working on the drywall etc. Have had it running for 6 hours 3 days a week for about 3 months now. Still bright as hell. Also hotter than hell put a infrared thermometer on it and was about 200F at the center of the light array. Great work light.

Thanks for reviewing these. I bought 2 a few months ago for my garage, replacing 150W incandescent and a 150w equiv CFL. I like them and they are quite bright, though I'm sure the lumen output spec was inflated. Bought off Amazon, 120V for US market. I suppose if I ever get around to it, I could add a bit more heat sink compound, drill some holes and remove that foam pad.

What would be some good hacks for this type of light to improve longevity? Extra vent holes in the body. More thermal compound or thermal pads for the led boards. Then maybe ditch the foam block in the housing in exchange for peelable silicone on the corners? I was thinking hot glue at first but then realised that was highly likely to just melt off, not sure if the silicone would work but it's worth a shot.

SMPS supplies that are so close together can resonate together if they are not really robust stable designs, and they can produce an audible hissing sound. I have seen this happen in some equipment that placed a number of PCB-mounted, epoxy-potted mini SMPS modules in close proximity to one another. Coils inside them started resonating from mutual inductance and they made a nasty audible hiss.

I will admit, I do use banggood of many items. I have found their refund department to be lacking in computer compatability. I had to use 5 different computer, laptop, phone , and tablet attempts to request a back order refund. I informed them whatever program they are using is needing upgrading. I realize they just sell items so I keep that in mind. Lately, I find shopping E- Bay gets me my item less shipping because most companys are trying to lure you in. Once you commit to their company, they can hit you with a shipping charge. I always back search the name of who I am buying from. Usually its someone I already buy from but on E- Bay they exclude shipping to get you to their site. I know, I am cheap. It works though.For electronics, I find sites that sell in bulk. Its cheaper buying 50 of something than just 1or two and I always end up wishing I had purchased more. Always.

yep 72v * 3 so 216V DC , bridge rectifier and suitable sized cap would do it, although a buck converter that takes 240v down to 216VDC would be efficient, better PF and allow better smoothing.

I'd be interested to see how one of these lamps compares to a standard 240v 60w halogen lamp when used in the intended location. Particularly the spread of light around the garage and the 'feel' of the light. My personal experience is that using LEDs, and LPF lamps in particular, I have difficulty reading small print, but can read it perfectly fine in natural and incandescent lighting.

Try a warmer color temperature LED bulb. I prefer a 4000k-5000k color temp myself. The 2700k ones are way too yellow/orange, and dim looking to me and anything above 5000k is too cold, blue, and the color rendition (C.R.I.) of them bothers me. Try to find a bulb with a C.R.I. of 90+, (100 c.r.i. would be the same as natural daylight from the sun at noon) and I think you'll find that you'll be able to read print just fine again.

I remember the last time (or maybe the first time??) Clive had radar, a bulb with a tumour on its head. Looked good I thought, so I got a couple which eventually arrived and worked a treat (or so I thougt) One in the porch, one in the hall. About 3:30 they both lit and so did I, certain we were being burgled. The PIR in the drive was dark, perhaps they were tunnelling under the house? I never did find out what set it off ... but over the next week or so I realised that EVERYTHING set them off ... next door's cat, man next door's prostate, Grass growing, birds on the roof, birds on the drive, birds flying over the roof and the drive. Even a hedgehog in next door's bins. They were far more sensitive than our early warning system and I think probably could see further. On the other hand, the PIR is rigidly directional and never gives a false alarm (it hardly ever comes on, even when you stand in front of it). I've ordered some boards but I'm in two minds how to use them seriously.

With the apparent power / real power issue, surely the reactive element will be a sum of the various reactances across the building as seen by the meter. So inductive loads would help cancel out capacitive etc.. The net effect being not such a drastic PF as the individual item. I can see a market for automatic PF correctors :)

Amazon has US rated ones in 60W warm white for $39.95 USD. This might be an acceptable lamp for ceiling mount, as long as there is no glass enclosure for the fixture. Enclosed fixtures will destroy LED "replacement" bulbs, as LEDs can't cool themselves adequately in an enclosed fixture. The bulbs fail within months of installation, and it's expensive to replace existing fixtures. The company that makes these should sell a version with a 200-300mm frosted Plexiglas disc mounted 10cm from each COB to diffuse the light a bit. That would be a lot like having 3 incandescent bulbs in a frosted glass fixture. Absolutely ideal for a basement, garage, or industrial.

Shame there's probably not a lot of consumers who are focusing on the quality things you look for - a lot of these seem like nice "almost there" things that need maybe one or two tweaks for good quality. If those are being pushed pretty hard, is there an easy mod to the drivers to tweak down the current?

You can usually increase the value of the sense resistors to reduce lamp current.

I can't help but wonder what it'd be like if you swapped the LED modules for 50W COBs, dunno how you'd squeeze three power supplies in though to run them though, but that's for future thinking... :D

@bigclivedotcom i've bought some garden solar lights and noticed that 2 of them didn't light up the next night. when i checked them i noticed they would light up in the day and drain the batteries. could you do a video of why they do this and if there is a simple fix please.

Anything is deformable with enough force :) As for the issue of smart meters / apparent power - is there actually a valid reason for changing people for it (I remember you mentioned industrial sites tend to pay for it). If not, should we be making a bigger noise about it before it happens? I've refused a smart meter so far (on software / networking issues alone) and their new tactic seems to be not sending a guy round and sending letters saying they charging for average use with the 'make sure youre paying the right amount by getting a smart meter'
@Mark1024MAK
@Mark1024MAK 5 жыл бұрын
Change company then. They are very keen to read your meter if they think they are about to loose money...! In the mainland U.K. they can’t force you to have a so called ‘smart’ meter. For domestic / home / light industrial / small office properties, the small difference between low power items having a good power factor and a poor power factor is mostly irrelevant compared to the rating of the infrastructure needed to supply electrical heating devices (room heaters, ovens, cookers, water heaters etc...).

High current bad power factor loads do cause the power companies issues in cable and equipment sizing.

Cool, I'm using a one now(in the US), I got it for free in exchange for leaving an Amazon review. I use it on a motion sensor(I didn't get one with the built in sensor), I don't know if that's good or bad for the lamp but it's good for my electric bill.

@@M1Cr0sOfT No, I'm in facebook groups Chinese sellers user to get reviews for their FBA products. They have you buy the product, then refund you through PayPal after you leave the review, sometimes they pay commission. It violates Amazon terms and if you're careless they will wipe your reviews and block you from future reviews. Sellers give codes that can give you up to 99% off at checkout but you should never leave reviews for codes.

The unexpectedly low heat sink temperature might be due to bad thermal coupling from the LED module to the heatsink. I mean that dab of thermal paste looks more like an insulator than helping with thermal conductivity.

Some Chinese sellers actually advertise thermal insulation for a cooler handle as a feature in their flashlights.

It's definitely thermal compound. A rather cheap industrial blend that runs about $3 for 60g. Awesome stuff, performs better and last longer than most of the high price compounds I see PC builders use. That dab however is absurdly small. Typically you would apply that stuff either by rolling it on with a swab or spreading it on with a small plastic spreader. It doesn't flow like alternative compounds when heated, too thick of a mixture for that.

I'm away from my workshop at the moment, but I could do a 500V test. That wouldn't show the potential insulation breakdown under fault conditions like an LED burning up.
