I would have loved to see the ERVs which weren't quite caught on film, and also to have heard more about heating a cooling (assuming heat pump?)

... but I just love this video over all! I love to see other Philadelphians moving to electric and away from fossil fuels!

I live in West Philadelphia but currently studying to pass my ARE exams. Curious if this couple or any other passive houses in the city offer tours of their buildings?

Curious how you can achieve passive house standards with double hung windows. Wouldn't a tilt/turn triple pane windows with Rolladen like they have in some European countries help achieve this?

Question, is the brickwork on your building a veneer with a channel for water behind it or is it a solid masonry wall with no gap?
@pinesthph8 ай бұрын
Because the brick walls are original and load bearing, they are 2-3 wythe with no gap for water

@@pinesthph So, wouldn't a waterproof material on the inside brick wall prevent moisture from escaping the masonry to the interior of the home? So where will that water go? How will the brick dry out? Philly is a pretty cold wet place. There's a freeze thaw cycle. I think you're trapping moisture inside the masonry and 20-30 years from now, that wall will deteriorate.

@@avisitorhere Great Question! Laura addresses her approach to freeze thaw at 9:42 of the video.

@@ReimagineBuildings You are relying on the sun to dry the wall out. I don't think that will happen, but we're both too old for either of us to be too concerned about it.

@@avisitorhere this bugged me for a sec as well, and 30 years… well let’s say I’m hopeful. Prosoco rguard seems to be vapor permeable, so it’s a double vapor retarder?
