I didn't think I punctured it. I got afraid, and just froze, while continuing to feel the temperature between my fingers. "Was it from the soldering? Or is it reacting? Oh no..".. My mind raced as I imagined the battery vent out lots of smoke and trying to think of a place to throw it and not cause a fire. Ultimately, it never actually got any warmer and nothing happened. I probably shouldn't have kept feeling it between my fingers, but I just had to know if it was getting hotter and going to explode.

That is an interesting concept, but from my own incense burning (or better: vaporizing) experience, I'd say it's a bit flawed. I only use incense that comes in the form of globs of hardened tree sap, so no herbs or anything among that. And I have had the best experience with putting it into the aluminium shell of a tea light candle, placing this shell above another tea light candle and then letting it get vaporized. For a greater longevity of the incense that is being burned, adding water from a spay bottle is greatly helpful, because otherwise, the incense doesn't just melt and then slowly cook to vaporize, but actually gets burnt and stinky quite quickly (I even once triggered my smoke alarm, because I wanted to test how it works without the water). Oh, and yes, it is advisable to free the upper aluminium shell in which the incense sits from any waxy or gluey residue from the tea light candle. That was easier in the past, when the candles weren't glued in, nowadays it's a bit more challenging, but basically, once you've gotten one or two of these shells, you can always reuse them, since the incense, when it's all used up and cooled down, just breaks apart and falls out without leaving much residue itself, also the aluminium is soft enough (almost plyable) so that you can deform it to losen the incense from the shell and that way break it up and dump it out. This thing however doesn't take care not to burn the incense, but only vaporize it, so that makes it somewhat suspect for me (although I agree that it would be a great gimmick to use, instead of burning candles, but oh well). It certainly is a much more cost efficient method of doing it, but I think my method is already highly cost efficient, because I don't have to buy and burn the coal tablets, which can't even be shut off if you think the place is sufficiently smoked out, so they are really wasteful.

I just had a discussion with my brother about powerbanks, and during that conversation one thought came to my mind: What would happen if you plugged one powerbank into another via USB-C (assuming that both support charging as well as supplying power through the same USB-C port)? I don't have the means to test this right now, and the answer would probably depend on the circuitry used, but I wonder what the most likely outcome would be. Would it just push power back and forth until the charging losses drained both batteries, do they share their power until both reach the same level of charge, or would this potentially fry something?

The heating spiral seems made of Kanthal A1 wire (NiCrAl alloy, like inside electronic cigarette). Aluminum oxyde that builds-up at the surface of the wire might explain why a loose contact with the front grid plate doesn't short-circuit it?
@longrunner2584 жыл бұрын
Kanthal is composed of FeCrAl. There's NiCr (also with Fe in some grades) but I don't know of any NiCrAl alloy being used. The explanation makes sense though (and some FeCrAl alloys are available with an intentionally pre-formed oxide layer).
@etienneguyot90694 жыл бұрын
@@longrunner258, you're perfectly right Kanthal-A1 is FeCrAl alloy (my mistake!). I get confused because under the same Kanthal brand from Sandwik, some other alloys using Ni exist too (kanthal SW210, SW230, SW806), but no NiCrAl which seems used for hitech industry (nuclear, etc.)

It's likely the microcontroller they used is available in multiple packages with one option having two more I/O pins.
